Which is better. I do not want to start that debate but blades can easily be changed in a Vitamix and Vitamix blades do not have bearing issues. But actually in terms of smoothies...Vitamix is better.

It's a personal choice, just like Coke or Pepsi.
Either are good machines and will make a very smooth delicious fruit drink.
I had a Blendtec from Costco, it was fine for two years with no issues.
Then one day, I used it to whip some cream cheese.
Will it Blend??? NOPE!
It burned up the motor.
I guess it can only blend hard things like broomsticks, iPhones, etc...
Luckily, it had a 7 year warranty and was replaced.
The standard Vitamix is too tall to be place under your cabinets.
I believe you can get one with a shorter jar.
I don't like the idea of having to use the temper stick.
Vitamix is my go-to for blending (from smoothie to daiquiri), and I like the simple (turn to go faster) knob control. I vary speed just to get everything to the bottom for good blending/chopping, or minimizing foam. Blendtec is slicker with all programs (drink making settings), and might be good if you walk away while blending. But no blender is as smart as your eyes and hand to get everything blended well, and Vitamix is much easier to control speed.
Unit arrived in a brown box with the FourSide jar instead of the Wildside+ but having not owned this blender before, I had no idea. A few days later woot. Amazon sent a flurry of apology emails and a $30 refund and their claim was that blendtec supplied them with the wrong items. My price was $159.
I would warn anyone jumping on this to verify which jar you get in the box.
For what its worth, I'm very happy with the blender and it makes yogurt smoothies and frozen coffee drinks to perfection so far, but its been a week so who knows how long it will last. Also I'm coming from a $30 blender I used for over a decade and so I'm comparing to that. That blender made smoothies a 15 minute ordeal trying to get the ice to break, etc. The blendtec single button behavior totally worked in my first week of experience
Edit: now in week 2, I've had to use the pulse button a few times to manually break some stuff up when running multiple batches of smoothies in a row, so yeah... the auto button isn't always perfect, which I guess is to be expected since its a program of times and speeds with no sensing.
