(YMMV) Emtech 256 external SSD, $11.47 at Walmart

YMMV on this. Went to a local walmart to see about the Crucial 500gb external SSD, but they were out. Looked around and found these for $11.47. Reviews are actually pretty decent, and it looks like it contains an actual mSATA inside if you wanted to crack it and use it as an internal drive.

Brickseek didn't show them in stock at all at the store I was in, but here's the BS link anyway: https://brickseek.com/walmart-inv...=224316039

Would these be good to take an old PC and set up some sort of MAME emulator machine?

I imagine this would be a good boot drive for a Raspberry Pi, but there are none in my area.
The 120 MB/s write speed on this thing (see the Amazon reviews) is also not ideal for an OS drive - faster than the MicroSD reader on the RPi4, but slower than almost any modern SSD.

It's not optimal, it's just cheap.

I bought one of these yesterday thinking it may have a M.2 SATA card inside.
Instead it has a direct connection to the USB-C. See the attached picture of the card.

It was on clearance for $26.

Thank you for the relevant information. I saw one of these in store for $26 but decided to pass. Had I seen this information I would not even have looked for it.

I was able to pick up two at Walmart in Savannah, GA yesterday. Store #606. They weren't marked as being on clearance, but rang up $12.85 each. It looked like there were a few left in the case. I never find these Walmart Brickseek deals... it's about time I found one. Thanks for posting and good luck!

FYI for anyone wondering...these are NOT shuckable at all. I ripped one apart out of curiosity, but the USB-C is soldered directly onto the PCB. There's no M.2 sata inside that you can harvest for an old laptop or what not... =(

This was my experience as well!

On Amazon, the seller Emtec USA answers a question saying that an m.2 sata is inside, stated 3 weeks ago.

The description on amazon and emtec websites both state mSATA, as of today.

Reviewer Raviv has pictures of a torn-down / disassembled Emtec x200 in 512 GB capacity, showing an internal mSATA and mSATA to usb board inside. This review was completed back in 2019. Perhaps the 512 GB is different from the 256 in this regard, or perhaps they changed the design since 2019.

More specifically it's an M.2 SATA

These are $20 at Amazon right now

i bought 7 of these, shucked one... they are not all m.2 sata. Mine is a single board no m.2 adapter inside. YMMV here. I can post pictures if you guys don't believe me but yeah, pretty disappointing.

I got two of them the other day when I was looking for the Samsung ones, there were like 6 there but I only grabbed two because I wasn't a greedy pig like some of you all on here. They were in the cage and there's nothing outside of the cage to let you know they even exist. The case is very cheap but it works so far, I had to format it to work with my MacBook though. It has a USB-C connection but the connection to the computer is USB A which is also kind of annoying.
Macs = Dongles LOL
that's why we are no longer an Apple family.
Tim Cook is not on our xmas list anymore.

Was it hard to get case open? Destructive, or could you put case back together again?
