The Docsis 3.0 vs 3.1 only plays a role between the modem and the ISP's servers, it will dictate how fast the connection can be in that segment.
Between the modem and the router, the ethernet protocol will dictate the speed, it will depend on the best speed both the modem and router can handle and successfully negotiate when you first plug in the cable.
between the router and your wifi device, the wifi connection is what dictates the speed, again both items need to have the latest technology, in this case wifi 6, to take advantage of it successfully, otherwise they negotiate the best alternative that they both support.

When you're trying to use your connection to get to the internet, let's say to download a big file, you will need all pieces to work properly and at their best speeds, if any segment from the ones described above is weak, it will be the limiting factor of how fast you can download that file.

For example, if you only subscribe/pay for a 200 mbps connection with your ISP, having a modem that can handle 5gbps or a wifi 6 router that can hand 1200mbps is not going to help you much, your speed to download that file will always be limited to 200 mbps.

There are many other scenarios where you could still use wifi 6 in-house even if your ISP connection is slow. I still think this gizmo @ $50 is a good deal, and might get it myself.

No clients? I installed an Intel AX210 on my new Asrock itx motherboard and it is ready when tp-link and others release more reasonably prices 6e routers. I'm expecting that to happen this September.

Not sure I will buy TP-link versus another brand, but am expecting 6e routers rollout to be relatively soon.
You see how you had to buy your own card and install it, that means your computer client didnt have it hence it did not exist. I never said there are no add on client cards, but straight out of the factory nothing is coming with 6E besides maybe the latest the smart phone not sure would have to check on that.

Affordable and by September I doubt we will see anything under $300 anytime in the next year!

Use the speedtest app on your PC or on the phone. The browser has plugins and other optimizations that make it never show the right speed. Always used the app on the phone or the speedtest app on the PC (wired or wireless) and it will show the true speed.
This is bogus, browsers don't have plugins or optimizations that would impact a decently written speed test. Speed tests in browsers are java or flash apps that create direct data connections to servers to assure good upload and download data irrespective of the HTTP protocols (unless used as fallbacks). Optimizations and plugins for caching etc wouldn't impact this.

Does this have a better range than the RT-AC68U?

Took the plunge last week and upgraded.

I upgraded from a TM-AC1900 (RT-AC68U). Still a great router but I bought it in 2016. It is by far the best router I have ever owned, especially for its bang for the buck.

This Netgear one is slightly better, but I did so because I have 4 devices that support AX. I have reached 700mbps+ on my phone running AX, which is absolutely amazing considering the router is only a 2x2. Never reached that on my old router. Range is about the same though. My TM-AC1900 was unable to keep up with my fiber connection, maxing out at 450-500.

Also has beamforming and MU-MIMO if thats your thing.

This router would be good if you have a 1gbps fiber connection and an AX device. If not, then your current AC device is fine still.

FYI, Intel AX200 cards are getting much cheaper

I literally just bought this from Amazon and installed it last night. Requested a credit for the $10 that is now showing up on the product page & they said no.

Rebuy, when you receive the new one return it using your old order? It's stupid they end up losing money in the end with paying shipping 2-ways but it's their own stupid policy.

Never buy 2x2 routers. Fine for a small apartment. A modern home has so many devices especially a smart home, and especially if you got WiFi video cams.

I told the csr that I'd do that & how short-sighted it was for Amazon to not just give me the $10 to avoid that hassle & expense but he/she said they couldn't change the price adjustment policy. Ridiculous, imo.

AFAIK, you can only take advantage of 3x3, 4x4 etc if you have a device with a 3x3, 4x4 antenna...etc

i.e. Macbook Pro has a 3x3 ac antenna

that's for single user. The antennas split up when in multi users scenarios. Especially for WiFi 6 which was built from the ground up to support multi users better than WiFi 5. All of this will benefit a modern smart home.

In for one. I found the Prime $10 clippable coupon only when I went to look in the list of buying options. It was several down the list.
