Tplink ax 3000 can only be used in two modes.
1 wireless router
2 Wired Access Point
Can't use as wireless repeater mode to extend wifi.

Tp link is not going to bring one Mesh to this router due to Intel chip.

Don't buy this model for wireless VR with Virtual Desktop or Airlink. From VD dev ggodin:

Avoid all TP-Link AX routers. Get the TP-Link C6 or A6 instead if you are on a budget or Asus AX55 or AX86U if you have a higher budget

What kind of router do you guys recommend that works with Spectrum and had strong enough signal for a 3100 Sq ft home, 3 floors and router would be on the 2nd floor? 400 Mbs plan, with potential for a future upgrade to the Gig plan

Was about to recommend this to a friend until I saw it was Intel based. Would be good to find a decent WiFi 6 router for around this price, without Intel's power problem.

What's the range on this thing?
That will vary greatly on the environment its in, but in a interference free environment cause of the 4 high powered antennas, 2 of them being FEM, and beam forming it will be very good.

Can purchasing multiple of these be meshed together for better coverage and seamless transition from one to another?
The feature is called OneMesh and no both the AX3000 and the AX50 version do not support it unfortunately, it was planned but now pretty much on a indefinite hold as it seems the chipset has issues with the feature.

List of all compatibility OneMesh equipment currently:
https://www.tp-link.com/us/onemesh/product-list/

Also just wanted to add all TP-LINK Deco products have their own mesh so if it says DECO it will mesh with other DECO products.

I like TP-Link AX routers, but they get hot and when they are hot they drop connection and reset. If you keep it in a good airflow area, this thing is reliable and performs well. I can 't put this behind my couch like the D-link or Orbi AX routers I've tested recently.
Not all of them run super hot just the ones using this housing configuration, thats why they got a refresh and the newer models also have vents on the top and no longer sealed plastic tops.

Not TD'ing or anything, just pointing out this is Intel-based, so it will almost certainly never see third-party firmware support.

TP-Link is fine, but they're not known for long-term support, so just be aware that you're "saving" money up front, but you will pay for it later when they stop updates in 18 months.

Still, it's $99. And I'd take TP-Link over a comparably priced / spec'd Netgear any day.
A China brand router (not just where it is made) that I can't load my own firmware? Hard pass. I had TP link before. Now I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole

Have owned the same router for about the same amount of time with same issue. Do you recall which firmware version you switched to that resolved the issue?

dependes what you are looking for, this is an excellent router for a regualr family, but I agree ... it heats up a lot, and I have it configured to reset every 24 hrs ... works reallly well and better than my netgear mesh

I own this router, and coming from a Asus rt68u, it definitely lacks some of the fancier / more advanced software / qos / security features. With that being said, it's performance has been excellent and it's been pretty rock solid for the few months I've owned it.

Not impressive range, even external and multidirectional antennas.
Not reliable, need to restart from time to time as other routers.
So, overpriced, very basic and common router.

When it comes to placement, the higher the better. Any Asus Wifi6 would do just fine that has a minimum of 4x4.

I have a TP-Link Archer C5 that I bought in 2015 and it's still going strong. It was fairly reliable with the stock firmware, but after about 3 years I flashed it to OpenWRT and it's been absolutely perfect.

I get that this model doesn't (and likely never will) support third-party firmware and thus I will avoid it, but in general, I've been extremely happy with all the TP-Link products I've owned.

I have a nighthawk AC1700, and it will drop at random hours, sometimes it feels like it drops during peaks hours. What are some better routers for GB internet, about 15-20 devices min? Two story house.
