And I can't believe you are still defending this practice. The screen is one of the most important part of the laptop. If the screen is trash, it doesn't matter how good the GPU is. Why would you would buy a laptop with a good graphics card and then cheap out on the thing that actually displays the graphics?

Even then the brightness is only the secondary concern. The colors on this thing is also complete trash. 45% NTSC is absolutely horrible and the 35ms response time is probably the tr+tf time which isn't the worst but isn't great. IIRC, 35ms translates to around 8ms using GTG standard. This is still slower than most other panels of this price range.

Compare this to the 300 nit screen with 100% NTSC rating and 13ms response time. Instead of making this screen standard, they picked a really crappy panel possible to put on a gaming laptop.

And finally, Dell has the gall to increase the price of the laptop with the better screen by 3-4 hundred.

To those thinking about buying this laptop because it has good specs, please reconsider. I bought a Inspiron 7000 that had the 60hz version of this screen and the display was downright terrible. And all I used it for was to do basic coding and browsing. Now imagine buying the same screen but to play games on. I would wait for a laptop with a better screen.
They did not "increase" the price on the better screen version, this model with the worse screen was put on sale. There is a reason why this is on sale, this is a ready to ship system so barely any upgrades possible and they cheaped out on the screen to to offer the lower price.

The Ryzen 5800h model with the 300 nit 100% NTSC screen is $215 more (after the same coupon). Pretty reasoable since the 5800h should also be faster.

Call it what you want but the fact is the Dell knows this is a crappy screen and basically told consumers, "hey if you want a better one, you have to pay an extra 400 dollars." And that's even without the sale. We all know that panel is nowhere near that 400 dollar markup.

I'm sure there is a market for a laptop like this. Like I said the actual computer specs on this laptop is pretty damn good. But I personally wouldnt compromise that much on a really bad screen. Even If it had a mediocre screen I would TU the deal.

But hey to each their own.

Mind providing the link? That would be a much better deal imo. The one I was referencing was the i7 config.

It was linked earlier in the thread https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=147440059&postcount=31

It's not on sale so you aren't combining discounts, but I kind of agree that the one component you should never compromise on with a laptop is the screen.

It's something like 10 to 20 percent (in Cinebench for example), which is not that different. Though the 5800h might give you better battery life. I didn't price out a model with just the upgraded screen, how much is it to just upgrade that and leave the intel processor?

What always hurt me lately with these is that they are leaving the hardware off for connecting a 2nd drive. And with a $149-ish for a 1TB, not greatly happy at the idea of 512GB only. I'm still on a G7 15 with a 1060 Max and was hoping to eventually jump to an RTX but just not sure I can do this.

who cares about the screen. this is a pretty good deal in terms of MH/s per dollar. just buy it and start mining.

I'm not 100% sure but there's a video on YouTube showing an unused m.2 slot that can take another drive.

There is, and i didn't look tonight, but last time I thought about replacing my kids laptop with one of the "Don't include hardware" i went to put the parts order and stuff was back ordered. Not a big "Make your own heatsink type among the other part that was missing, but that is personal choice.

Tough call between this and the HP Omen 15. This Dell is the cheapest 3060 available. But Omen can be configured with a Ryzen 5600H for around $50 more (after EPP discount) and has a 100w 3060, 300nits 144Hz, and sleeker profile. Wait time on Omen is a month however.

I ordered that exact setup on 4/17 and it arrived on 5/12, it came from china in 5 days via FedEx. For the $$ it's a hell of a machine. This deal looks very good for the price as well.

As far as I know Dell G15's RTX 3060 uses Samsung GDDR 6 which is very good at overclocking. This is important for ETH mining. This can achieve 49 MH/s with proper frequency settings (i.e., downclock the GPU and overclock the VRAM).

Grab a couple for mining while you can. They will easily pay themselves within a few months.

How would this get 49mh on 90 watts? most laptop 3060 with less than 90 watts are around 34mh. Would think it would top out at maybe 36-37mh even with overclock - which is always a bit hit or miss on laptop anyway.

That video mentioned it missing some part to install the additional drive, not sure what it was.
