I've been eyeing this garage door for awhile and it's finally on sale. Normally $245, now 20% off for $195 with free shipping or free store pick up. This garage door is CA compliant since it has a backup battery.

I also got the professional installation for an additional $87. Also not a bad deal considering quotes I got from contractors were $150 to $200 just for install.

Amazon also has the same garage door for the same price https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075CQ86ZV/ Expired

Others are reporting you can purchase installation only through this link: https://www.homedepot.com/c/cost_install_repair_garage_doors_openers?cm_mmc=hsem-cg-faq [homedepot.com]

HD contracts out to 3rd party installers. The installation includes:

CA requires a back-up battery because of wild fires. If you need to evacuate quickly, you'll want to use your car. Some people may only have an accessible car in the garage but if the power is out, how will they open the garage open? Yes, there's the emergency cord to manually open and close the door. But not many know about it, know how to operate it or even have the strength to operate it. Imagine your elderly parents in a panic trying to evacuate quickly and but don't have arm strength to pull on the emergency cord or not tall enough or the car is in the way of getting access to it. Then the real panic and irrational thinking starts to set in. But if the garage door can operate with just a backup battery in case of emergency, that's a great peace of mind to have for a little extra $. CA firefighters have found people who died in their garage trying to get out, especially the elderly. Hence the CA law requires backup battery.
Until your power goes out. It's my main entrance to my house. Power goes off while I am not there it gets tricky. It's happened more than once here in the midwest
This is what I use to install mine https://youtu.be/ekPy7w9UIdY

Anybody in SF Bay Area have trouble getting hold of the installer? I've left a couple voicemails to the local installer here after being transferred by the Home Depot automated line, but it just goes to voicemail and no one returns my calls. GRRR!

An installer called me a couple days after I placed the order to schedule an appointment. He missed the appointment (2 days ago) and I have been unable to contact him since. I'm in SoCal

You'll need a sectional garage door which has a spring above the door. IOW, it has to be a garage door designed to support an opener. You'll need an outlet to plug the opener into. You might need to buy some additional angle iron/bar to mount the unit. Lastly, you'll run wires to the bottom edges of your garage door rails and near the door to your house. You can either surface mount these or else be fancy and run them inside the walls, which takes some effort, unless they were pre-installed for you.

Chamberlain has fantastic tech support and if you take a few pictures of your door and send them, they'll answer you right away with all the help you need.
My home used to have a garage door opener, but it was loooong dead so we removed it when we re-did the ceiling and added a closer power outlet. I guess my question is mostly about the structure needed to support the opener down from the ceiling, and anything else beyond the existing sectional, opener-compatible steel door, and if that would be included in Lowe's or Home Depot's installation service.

I'm on the peninsula, and deliveries/installations for other things have been annoying. I called Costco to ask about how the delivery of our dishwasher would be set up, they said that the install is a separate person from the delivery people. "But honestly...we've been having a real hard time getting ahold of the companies in this area...even though it's paid for in your dishwasher's price, you'll probably want to figure out a plan B." So I installed it myself, completing it before lunch. 7PM comes, and a guy knocks on our door. I couldn't get to the door in time to catch him, but saw him drive off, after leaving a random brass fitting on our porch (that wouldn't have been used for the install). It turns out that as the company...never called to schedule, never called us back after we called them several times. When we called Costco, they said that their system showed "Installation: completed".

My install in the East Bay was completed yesterday - they were scheduling installs about a week out.

Installed the two I purchased today. Replaced 10+ year old Chamberlain 3/4hp chain drive. Was able to reuse wiring, sensors, and the brackets that connect door and header to unit. You better have two ladders or two people if installing yourself. Plan for 2-3 hours. It took about 4 hours for both of them for me. The thing seems to have very good range. Driveway is about 500 ft long and it opens from almost the bottom. It seems to open rather slow, but is certainly open by the time I get to the top of the driveway. Very quiet.

in NJ, they scheduled within a couple days of my order, and the tech came in one week. From order to installation was about 2 weeks.

Frustrating. It has been more than 2 weeks since order and no calls to schedule yet. They never pick up phone and do not respond to voicemails either.

$87 install was posted on sign in my store during this promotion. I personally Installed myself, but many others in this thread paid $87.

The installer came by to install my garage opener yesterday.

He noted that my springs were worn out and my garage door was heavy and unbalanced.
He then said that he wouldn't install the garage opener with these springs.
As a result, my old garage door opener is still installed.

My wallet and I didn't plan on installing new springs. Here goes another unexpected expense Frown

Get a second opinion. Does your garage open manually without major effort (the springs are counter weight balance to the garage door weight). Does your garage balance when it is half way open. Meaning it doesn't want to go all the way up and not want to fall down? If not then Call another installer and don't mention the springs.

Just a follow up in case any one runs into similar issue with the remotes not working correctly. I did contact support and they were great to work with as mentioned. They shipped me a new logic board as well as a couple of new remotes. I tried programming the new remotes first with the existing install as this would be quickest fix if it worked, but the issues persisted. I then replaced the logic board and that fixed the problems. No more range issues and remotes work consistently now, whether inside the garage or from the street. Keypad outside garage works fine now as well. I'm still not sure why the Homelink remote in the car didn't have any issues before as I thought it would work on the same frequencies.

A note on my Home Depot third party installer. I purchased the opener and install package on the 5/24, installer called next day, scheduled, and installed on 5/27. Installer took about 2 1/2 hours, didn't use the instructions as it was unopened. He tried to use the existing sensor wires with the new sensors but had issues so had to run the new sensor wires. Then ran into issues with new wires because he damaged one of the wire when stapling it to the wall. I also took a look at the install once he left, he didn't remove the nut ring on the spring so I had to do that and he also didn't bend the tab up on rail. Not sure the tab is critical, but the belt definitely needed to have the nut ring on the spring removed as there was barely any tension on it.

Just had this installed by Home Depot 3rd party this morning. Super quiet compared to my old Genie screw drive, but the range on the remotes is horrible. I'm not sure if there's some interference somewhere or if something else is wrong and will need to do some troubleshooting later.

It works most of the time from within the garage, but step outside and I have trouble opening/closing. The wireless keypad right outside the garage has troubles as well.

My old opener was one that still used dip switches, not sure what frequency it was, but it worked at the street when I pulled up to the house.

They all say that!!! I've done two of these now and I've noticed a pattern. The installer makes crap up to get more money out of you. First one was in a new townhome 4 years old. And they make shit up saying builders use cheap stuff and it's now time to replace the spring for $400 or he can re tune it for $250. I declined both and he almost wasn't going to install it.

Second time I get similar story in a older home but this one charged $45 to retune it. Otherwise he won't install it. I think I've had it with these $87 contracted out "installers"
