The games people purchased for PS3 and vita are still available. You just can't buy new ones digitally.

The PS3/PS Vita stores [polygon.com] will not be shutting down. However, the storefront for the PlayStation Portable (which dates to 2004 and hasn't been supported since 2014) will be closed down, on July 2, 2021, as originally planned.

Who would be dumb enough to pay that much for that average game?

Sony sales and digital marketplace prices are so bad and atrocious there's a lawsuit against them.

Because it's 2021 and everything is moving digital for the future. Physical media is dying a slow death, but it definitely is dying.

Movies, music, games, software is all primarily digital now. Get with the times and stop collecting plastic you'll likely never revisit and won't be worth anything in the future.

Also a store shutting down is no new purchases, you can still access your paid content.
Tell that to my sega saturn collection worth over $70,000 (and I only have 17 games, some happen to be rare ๐Ÿ˜œ ).

Free PS+ Games are one thing, but not sure why anyone would continue to buy digital games on Playstation after how quick they were to shutdown the stores on older consoles. I don't have any confidence these games would be available long-term.
Even with physical you will still need to download a day one patch to get it into a bug fixing playable state. So regardless you still going to need PS online service. Just like digital games.

Wow. Thanks for schooling all of us about digital goods. I think you may be a little confused about the value of physical media though. I sure am glad I bought most of my 3DS games in physical form, since many of them are $40-80 a piece on eBay. Oh, but apparently they are worth nothing beyond their plastic value because Digital Boy here says so.

Until our digital purchases are in the form of some kind of Non-Fungible Token, and we own them independent of the store fronts, accounts, and devices we purchase them on - and can sell them to other people, then I'll continue to buy Physical when available. Currently, digital goods on these stores are literally worthless unless you are planning to sell your entire accounts. Literally the opposite of what you said. Yeah... no thanks.
So your defense of why having a physical copy that you can keep forever is better, is because you can get rid of it whenever you want and never play it again?

I don't know why people are down voting you for saying the truth that they refuse to understand. It'd be like getting mad at Toys'R'Us for closing down all their stores because you can't buy games from there anymore.

The option to buy a physical copy is still there if the very specific situation ever occurs of not being able to play your digital copy due to your hard drive/console breaking down over a decade after the console became obsolete and for some reason you really wanted to play a specific game from over 10 years ago (don't know why with so many great new games out these days). You'd be in the same situation as if you had bought the physical disc and it got damaged for some reason, so I don't know why people make such a big deal about it being a digital-specific problem.

Winston from 1984 called and told me that an all digital future is what Big Brother loves!

My defense is that IF I want to get rid of it, it actually has value. And if I decide to keep it, then at least I know that I can play and access the game without having to rely on storefronts and servers allowing access to the game I purchased. I know, hard to comprehend.

Edit: ROFL, its a little absurd that people even have to argue the benefits of owning something versus LEASING something.

in a few years, while you're busy holding that irrelevant disc for whatever old system you bought that you'd need an update to start playing anyway, someone just made 5000x their money on some altcoin crypto while twiddling their thumbs at home.

don't waste your time hoarding and living in the past, find other ways to "create value"

Right...won't be worth anything (side eyes a few thousand dollars worth of Wii, PS, PS2, and PS3 games in my media cabinet)
Yea if you think that every game is going to be worth money you are mistaken. If you look at the game prices of older systems, Atari 2600, NES, SNES, the prices peak and then slowly drop. Only certain titles, and even then, certain versions of those titles will hold a good value. 2600 games are largely worth nothing now. As each generation ages, and the "nostalgic" system changes, the older stuff is worth less except the cream of the crop.
