Picked one of these up on Adorama today for the same price. Looks like most of the mounts are on Amazon at $399 too. Pick your favorite and dont forget the cash back sites
For this price its a decent lens. As said above, no one uses af with a macro lens. Most likely you're going to encounter manufacturing screw ups more than true optical problems, but there might be soft spots in a few area of the lens. The difference in price between this glass and oem glass is usually manufacturing spec and tolerances. For the same price however you can probably find a nice used name brand lens from KEH or something.
This is suuuccchhhh an amazing lens. It is sharper than any lenses I have (of course macros tend to be, but still...) and no notable lenses on the market last I checked can do better than 1X. I thought I got an amazing deal on this last year when I got a like new copy for 300 from someone. It is hard to find deals on Laowa, and the price for this was already outstanding for the quality.
I researched macro lenses for a little over a year and decided on this lens. I've been waiting for a price reduction. Even set up alerts for one. This is the first time in a year that the price dropped. The lens has zero chromatic aberration and 2x magnification, which will allow you to see even more details in your image. Below is a link to a video comparing it to other macro lenses. https://youtu.be/jpmOgq2vGsY

I wish this can be also used for a portrait photography.
You should be able to use this lens just fine for portraits. Most mirrorless cameras have focus peaking which you can use to make sure everything is in focus that you want to be in focus.
The sigma 105 is worth the extra $$ over this if you do anything more than extreme macro on a tripod. Manual focus for handheld macro or portrait is no bueno.

I haven't used it myself but the lens seems quite good from what I've read.

You absolutely can use it as a portrait lens.
