I purchased this last time it was on sale for $534. Decent laptop.
Nice screen, keyboard is somewhat annoying since it's gray and back lit. You would have to turn of the keyboard lights during daytime to see the letters properly.
Over all it is thin and light but the exterior shell is plastic not aluminum, which fooled me into thinking it was aluminum but I was surprised when I received it.
RAM is upgradable, I added another 8gb stick.
Here is a link to the RAM stick sold by Dell. It was on sale when I purchased it for $52 now its $77. You can find similar RAM for cheaper on Amazon. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...023/memory

all in all good purchase for the price but make sure you test it well during the 30 return period because Dells customer service is terrible.

Edit: even though you get a free 1 year of McAfee included in the price, Dell for some reason bill it on a separate line in the invoice. my invoice showed $37 line for McAfee. I called and requested for a refund, and after some haggling the rep refunded the McAfee charge. so I ended up paying less than $500 for the laptop. make sure you give this a try if you decide to go for it.

Most Ultrabooks don't have one since people tend to use wifi. Or you could use a $10 dongle to convert from USB to Ethernet

It's not about the $5 or being "cheap" - look at the profile pic of the laptop on the sides. It's barely bigger than the size of the USB port on the side. Including an ethernet port would probably make the sides 30% larger at least, and that is huge. Most newer ultrabooks don't have ethernet anymore either to help keep the profile as thin as possible, and you can spend $3,000 on one if you wanted.

And as someone else said, the amount of users that would actually use an ethernet port on a laptop 14" or under is probably under 5%. It's not a desktop replacement, and is designed for portability. I personally don't know what situation I'd ever plug in an ethernet to my laptop instead of using wifi. I could see doing that if you are buying a desktop replacement laptop, but not an ultra portable 14".

This is not some cheap Chrome book type POS. $500+ i5 based laptop and they seriously expect people to buy some cheap usb to ethernet adapter to do what should have been built into the device in the first place and would have cost Dell all of probably $5 to include? It is lame by any measure imo. To each his own, but I do not see why anyone would buy such a thing.
Is this the first time you're shopping for laptops in the last 5 years? Maybe go look at the $1000-$3000 MacBooks and let us know if you see ethernet ports on those (or any ports but USB-C as a matter of fact)!!!

There is nothing wrong with USB-->Ethernet adapters. They're cheap and work just as good as built-in ports (probably bettter since built-in ports nowadays have the hinge port that is a pain and can break).

If Ethernet is your primary concern, get a larger laptop with one built in and stop shopping thin and light ultrabooks.

And if usb port is an issue, we been doing it years with one of those USB hub + ethernet and it works wonders. Need to go somewhere, simple disconnect the USB hub. Need to connect to more plus ethernet, sit down and plug in USB hub and you got ethernet, external keyboard, mouse, etc....

This is the way.

Now does anyone know how long the battery last and if it supports power delivery? No, I have not look, really asking those that already own this.

bruh, sorry to say moving forward--well its been for some time, if you want 14" an ethernet port will be rare if not as you can see already removed.

i understand your vent and rant and i too support having ethernet but unless you want to stay behind and use obsolete ultrabooks/notebooks with them, all modern and more powerful machines at the 14" size wont have them. so pick your poison.

I have lived without ethernet for a while, and has been fine in my ultrabook. I'm so used to it that at first i was just like you, ranting and throwing a big fuss. I got a small compact usb c hub that included an ethernet port and other ports but i only need it when im trying to transfer at high speeds in the network. And if that is something you plan to do on a regular, then maybe an utlrabrook at 14" size is what you need. if this was also going to be say a desktop replacement then whats the big deal of getting a $5 dongle or nicer hub that has one.

It's not lame but showing your old age and your impracticality. Real world use TODAY in 2021 and beyond will find ethernet port on the laptop not commonly used. Obviously in a DESKTOP that's still a must. Think of the bigger picture and just yourself.

I bet you were also one to show disdain when console systems started moving away from physical media? Or when vehicle manufacturers started to produce less big displacement v8 and v6 motors for inline 4. Or when tv manufacturers stopped making plasma tvs?

I did same. Bought I upgraded ram. Keyboard doesn't bother me but that's personal
Preference.

I thought the fingerprint reader was a little too finicky. I want to open it, unlock it and go but it has about a 60% correct work rate.

Main biggest annoyance is that it takes a while maybe 10s or more to connect to internet.

Other than that this is the exact computer I had been waiting for.

I've bought this laptop in the past for a client and it's pretty nice, especially around this price point.

In for another one. Used 5% financing discount plus had $12 in rewards (and earned another $30 in rewards).

Thanks OP!

I repeat again, exterior shell is plastic not aluminum. I purchased it a couple months ago thinking it was aluminum because the SD post said so but I was surprised to find out it was aluminum looking plastic. OP please adjust the description so other SDer don't get fooled by this claim.

Exactly. Amazon has a good selection of USB-C hubs and don't forget this laptop has a USB C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port so get a 10Gbps USB-C hub!

I do believe the USB-C port does charge the laptop. I recall doing that with the one I sourced for a client.

So my order confirmation shows that part of the total price is $35.96 for McAfee 12 months (which is garbage IMO and I would never use).

Anyone know how to get that $35.96 refunded from the purchase price? I probably need to wait until I have received it but wonder if anyone has ever tried it?

That looks like a Dell Inspiron 3000 series Laptop which is not any UltraBook by any meann. It also still has that in this generation. That is the cheapest Laptop Dell has with 100 Mbps Ethernet port for crybabies like you.

Can someone tell how does it compare to the costco deal? I recently ordered it, now debating with this dell deal.
