I purchased this last time it was on sale for $534. Decent laptop.
Nice screen, keyboard is somewhat annoying since it's gray and back lit. You would have to turn of the keyboard lights during daytime to see the letters properly.
Over all it is thin and light but the exterior shell is plastic not aluminum, which fooled me into thinking it was aluminum but I was surprised when I received it.
RAM is upgradable, I added another 8gb stick.
Here is a link to the RAM stick sold by Dell. It was on sale when I purchased it for $52 now its $77. You can find similar RAM for cheaper on Amazon. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/d...023/memory

all in all good purchase for the price but make sure you test it well during the 30 return period because Dells customer service is terrible.

Edit: even though you get a free 1 year of McAfee included in the price, Dell for some reason bill it on a separate line in the invoice. my invoice showed $37 line for McAfee. I called and requested for a refund, and after some haggling the rep refunded the McAfee charge. so I ended up paying less than $500 for the laptop. make sure you give this a try if you decide to go for it.

Most Ultrabooks don't have one since people tend to use wifi. Or you could use a $10 dongle to convert from USB to Ethernet

It's not about the $5 or being "cheap" - look at the profile pic of the laptop on the sides. It's barely bigger than the size of the USB port on the side. Including an ethernet port would probably make the sides 30% larger at least, and that is huge. Most newer ultrabooks don't have ethernet anymore either to help keep the profile as thin as possible, and you can spend $3,000 on one if you wanted.

And as someone else said, the amount of users that would actually use an ethernet port on a laptop 14" or under is probably under 5%. It's not a desktop replacement, and is designed for portability. I personally don't know what situation I'd ever plug in an ethernet to my laptop instead of using wifi. I could see doing that if you are buying a desktop replacement laptop, but not an ultra portable 14".

Price dropped by another $30. Now it's $499. Going for it!
Picked up another for $474.99 after 5% Financing discount, plus I get another $30 in rewards, plus I used a CB site for another 4%, so roughly about $430 after all is said and done.

Too bad the AMEX 10% credit expired (for me).

Am I missing something? It's $499 on Dell's website.

Also, does anyone know how's the battery life on this?

Does the financing discount need a hard inquiry on the credit report?
You need to have a Dell Financial Credit card, so probably yes.

Well, that is crap for those of us that just bought it a few hours ago!

Time to chat... Smilie

Thanks.
Chatted with Dell CS and after an hour of arguing, I finally got them to refund me the $30, but only after threatening to return the system.

Apparently, using ANY discount code (like the Dell Financing 5% off code) invalidates any ability to do a price match (even though the same code would be used on the new lower price also!). Also Doorbusters (is this a Doorbuster?) are excluded.

Sometimes I really hate Dell and their ridiculous policies.

I bought this one last time and received a used one. Cheap plastic shell with dirt on it. Returned it immediately. Good luck to those who are going to buy it!

Are you sure about $30 in dell rewards? I bought the same laptop a month ago when it was $534 with $100 amex offer but those dell rewards just pending and yet to materialize. The issue with dell rewards is that it doesn't get awarded unless you spend $800 in a year and it expires if you don't spend that much within a year.

It clearly says aluminum in multiple places, perhaps you got a different model?
Lenovo advertised one of theirs as "Aluminum Case", yet I received plastic.
Sent it back anyways (screen was adequate, but I want better).

No ethernet port = lame. Who in their right mind designs a computer with no ability to connect by ethernet?
My 9 month old HP 14" i-7, 12GB DDR4 512GB m.2 SSD doesn't have a ethernet port either. No problem.

It should suffice for programming provided you add additional 8gb RAM as that would be more smoother irrespective of what IDE you use.
