About this item:
This trash can operates with infrared motion sensor technology to allow you to simply wave your hand above the sensor at the front of the lid to open it automatically. The lid will remain open as long as there is an object in front of the sensor and close gently five seconds after the object is removed. If a hand or object breaks the infrared beam between the lid and the sensor while it's closing, re-triggering technology opens the lid again to prevent lid from closing on your hand.

I have two of these motion sensor trash cans for well over 5 yrs now - both still going strong. The 13 gal trash bags are cheep and easy to find. I recommend this unit.
ALWAYS avoid sensor activated trash cans. They never work well for long.
Avoid.
Even when they work, they're too slow to be very practical. We've tried several and just ended going right back to SimpleHuman step-activated cans. Quick, easy, durable, quiet, no batteries.
This seems like a good price, but my $0.02 is that I wouldn't take one for free.

I would think that the motion sensor is more inclined toward those that have a handicap requiring the aid of a wheelchair or walker to be mobile.
I still agree that the motor could definitely use some Tim Allen "Tool Time" tuning to make it more user friendly. Soft closure is fine, but no one wants to wait around for the entire minute to pass while the lid opens.
The motor runs off 1.5v, so I installed a buck converter and USB plug. I've stepped the 5v from USB down to that so I never have to replace the batteries.
I adjusted the voltage from 1.5 back up to 1.7v, and the motor opens faster and it's been super amazing.
Is there a translation of what you just said that has some colorful images so I can better understand?

Have had mine for about 2-3 months. The sensor and motor have held up well even with me habitually forcing it closed. However, it can get very annoying if placed in a high traffic area, especially if the trash has extra stank.
Side note- just to share my experience, I bought some scented trash bags (Glad ForceFlex with Febreze Fresh Clean) to go along with this and it was a huge mistake in getting them scented. It's as if it amplifies the odor. I don't know if this is true for all scents but I'm staying away from them altogether.

If the sensor stops working can you not just disconnect the rod to manually lift the lid?
I believe there is a button to open it manually if the sensor was to ever quit working. They refer to a "manual" mode in the description. I don't have this particular model, but one like it, and it can be opened/closed manually by pushing buttons on the front panel.
