Love... and hate this thing. Can behave when it wants to, but there is a lot of opening when it shouldn't and not opening when it should.

i have owned one very similar to this (purchased off ebay at this price) for three years now. Mine has never failed and batteries last well over a year. My family loves it.

I got one a month ago and was going to return it after noticing it's using D cells. Then I bought a couple of AA-to-D adapters from Amazon and decided to keep it.

The thing I don't like about this trash can is that these trash cans don't have plastic liners. Since the bottom of the can is not sealed, the liquid stuff in the trash bag could potentially leak out of the bag and get on your floor. It has not happened to me because I only put dry garbage in the bag.
