I've used several ecobee in my office and multiple Nest-E at home. Ecobee is so much better, more user friendly, easier to adjust and set schedules, and get your historical data out of it. Nest looks cool but is terrible for function and user experience. The WORST part is they advertise the usefulness of historical data on the Nest and you can only see the last 10 days. How is 10 days of usage history useful? I am so sorry I have Nest at home.

Well, your suspicions are wrong. it's pretty screwed up for you to be spreading false information. Nest has been well known for providing only 10 days of data. I just checked and it only shows 10 days.

But, no need to take your or my word for it. Let's use data and references and critical thinking.

Google support page for the nest:

"Your thermostat's Energy History is a detailed summary that covers the last 10 days. You can view it on your thermostat or with the Nest app on a phone, tablet, or computer."

Anywho. Maybe you've got a magic nest, or can't count. But, PLEASE share proof rather than assertion as if you are correct I'd love to get that data out of it. I know there are 3rd party scripts to scrape the google API and get your data but they are a pain.

One of the greatest potential values of a smart thermostat is the data over long periods of time to establish seasonal energy consumption changes. Nest makes this impossible. However, ecobee makes it EASY!

You can do so by logging into your web portal and clicking on the HomeIQ tile. There, you'll find an overview of how your system has been running—including its activity based on schedule, your estimated energy saved, and how your savings compare to others. You can also download your thermostat's historical data.

flair was the reason I pulled a perfectly good Nest out for Ecobee. I'm glad I did as I like the Ecobee a lot more than Nest now but never would have tried it before.
I have 1 Zone central AC in a 2500 sq foot house with two floors and a basement. How does this compare to having a real second zone? I've heard opening and closing vents isn't ideal. My main issue is that our upstairs gets super hot, but when we make it colder up there, the main level is freezing.

I would probably need close to about 16 vents. Is it costly? I'd also have to convert my Nest (which I am beginning to dislike), to Ecobee.

You're looking at about $90 to $100 per vent. I'd reach out to flair. In your case they'll most likely recommend you only replace the first floor vents since you wouldn't need to close the second floor vents. If you did both floors you might need 2 pucks depending on how far away the units are. It solved my issue. My office is quite a bit hotter than the rest of the house. So I was able to cool off my room while keeping the rest of the house at normal temps. Plus the Ecobee option to turn on the fan for a minimum of 5 min/hr helped a lot in moving cooler air into my office.

Thank you. I'll reach out to Flair. They work well? Do I need different cutouts for my ceiling, or do they fit over what's currently there?

I've always read that people advise against even manually closing vents anywhere in the house, as it could damage AC components, but I guess it seems to work in your favor?

As a Nest owner who's already been burned, I wouldn't be surprised if Google killed Nest in the nest 5 years.

I have not... one note about the ecobee sensors, they only poll their connection to the thermostat periodically to conserve power. So don't expect more fidelity than like once per 5 minutes.... but again, you don't need to change batteries but once every year or two, which is pretty amazing.
