But, using the right tool for your job, the electric hand belt sander, the standing drum sander, or even a thickness planer is the tool. Don't have those, an electric/pneumatic hand sander of whatever flavor and if no powered hand sander, then by hand with sandpaper.
The easiest and cheapest way? Use the appropriate paint stripper for polyurethane removal.
