I used to work for the company that manufactures these, we didn't use the terminology when I worked there but Id assume it's referring to the knitting of the cover that encloses the mattress.

A real hybrid doesn't even need a box spring, slats are fine, some hybrids are 17" thick. These thin, ship in a box 10" I would use a box spring.

i may return the costco one soon. there is no firmness mentioned anywhere on the box for instore box. but their online listed "medium". its nowhere near medium standard. its too soft and flat. i let it sit for more than 2.5 weeks and its exactly the same soft and thin level. even with some "massage" and air inlet technique.
