Very annoying to control but pretty good for the price and maybe the new Cync app will make it better.
They do need a hub but there are lots of options. The Amazon echo plus works as a hub. Maybe you already have one.
I have about 6 different brands of smart bulbs. I don't use the 2 of these that I got free with my Google homes. I kept having issues with having to delete and reconfigure them. Everything else in the house works fine

All you need is a phone to control these. I paid 20 a couple years ago and rarely use them. They are good for mornings or nighttime when you don't want it too bright. They let off a old school yellowish tone or maybe that's just how dim looks. The app is pretty easy but i will say I have never been able to use both bulbs at the same time for some reason because they won't both pair for me on several different sets of lights. I have one in a lamp in one room and one is n the other room. I'm pretty sure I've had them paired with both Alexa and google home but not at the same time.

I want these bulbs but I hate how most of these smart items need a 3rd party app to link to google home first before using.

Good luck, I was part of the Beta test team for these & they could never keep wifi connection. There's a good reason why GE is discontinuing the line after less than a year on the market.

Just get wyze bulbs. Especially if you already have their app (I'm really trying to limit the number of smart apps I need). Not hub required. They work well and they have tunable temperature which is something not many bulbs have and is awesome to use.

These bulbs work directly with the Amazon Echo or needs c-by-GE devices like Smart Plug, Smart Switch or C-Reach too?

I got a couple of the full color bulbs from the same brand a little while back. They completely refused to pair with my phone (LG G8). They were clearly bought once, returned, and re-sold. One of them was stuck on a red color and I was unable to change it because I couldn't get it to pair.

Total crap, do not recommend. Look at these reviews: https://i.imgur.com/4QdocIS.png

These are Bluetooth controlled. I'm out. Had tried their smart bulbs that is zigbee and also Bluetooth. There is a reason these are cheap, no one wants them when used in a smart home setup. Could work well if just want to control from Bluetooth phone or tablet. Hit or miss with voice hubs.

I'm sticking with zigbee, zwave, or wifi.

I have a combo of these bulbs and Kasa switches. The switches are much more reliable. If your Wi-Fi drops these bulbs disconnect. I unplug my google home devices for several seconds and the bulbs work fine. These work great for lamps. Thanks for posting OP.

Less than a year? Ive been using these since August of 2019 with my google mini just fine. Paid 5 bucks for a pair just like this from lowes, they are fine for the price.

I got a pair for like 7 bucks a few months ago. I just use them as regular bulbs. They would constantly disconnect and start blinking like they wanted to pair. It would randomly happen. Waking up to my bedroom light blinking got old. I just use them in the linen closet now.
