Maybe I'm not understanding, can you explain? From my point of view if I spend $100 on apple gift cards at a grocery store using CSR I earn 100 points, which is equal to $1. If I then pay myself back for the gift card purchase I would spend 6,666 points to regain the $100. So my net gain is $1 (100 points), vs just spending 6,666 points directly via apple redemption offer? Am I missing something else?
When you pay yourself back on a grocery store purchase, you still get to keep the points you earned for that purchase, so you make $1 for every $100 spent. Better yet, if you redeem the Apple products directly with points, it takes a long time for them to process. If you buy it with Apple gift card, they ship right the way.

Is that like when someone says no offense and then offends the person. Just because you say the onus is on me doesn't make the onus on me. There are numerous ways throughout the year to get 15%+ discount on Apple gift cards....one way right now is to use the Amex offer for happy gift cards and use the happy gift card at Bed Bath & Beyond to buy an Apple gift card.
That offer is one time per account. So, 15% off for only a $100 purchase. Plus, again, no extended warranty from Chase.

The highest redemption rates are on long haul airfare - think Greece, Mediterranean, Asia. I don't get the point why someone will waste it on something else. If you don't travel, there is no reason to get this card either.
I don't use points or balance credit on electronics purchases - if you close the card, you lose the extended warranty. If you buy Apple, better use Costco card or sth that gives you extra warranty. Many banks have credit cards that cover theft and damage of phones for example, if the bill is paid by the card, etc.

p.p. I am sitting on around half million Ultimate points right now. I use this stuff for travel. Especially useful if you need to book last moment, and you don't want to pay cash 500% markup for airfare. Done it on multiple occasions.
