Repped. I now realize not seeing the video storage mentioned either way. I thought this goes with the original vs compressed as well. Any link about this?
The comment on no free unlimited video storage was referring to amazon not google. For amazon you only get 5gb of video which is like 10 seconds of 4k (just kidding but you blow through it quickly).

Security/Firmware updates are overrated, unless imo.
hackers don't care about single users majority of the time. and as long as you aren't using sketchy apps and downloading random apk you are going to be safe majority of the time.

i would be more worried about google/samsung whomever having access to your location, info, tracking everything and their servers getting hacked than a security flaw/update for your phone.

screw google samsung for pushing updates that slow down your phone, more bloatware, tracking software, and kill your battery.

pixel 3 is a great back up phone, or a dummy phone in my case to have for android auto. wish pixel 4a was 200.
You can get 4a from Visible: $336 + $25 x 2 (two months of service if you join a group plan) -$150 - $20 R****n cashback = $216 + tax. Plus you get free Nimble charging package.

my statement factual, it isn't opinion. if you don't download sketchy apps you are safe.

i should have added, don't connect to public wifi, click on suspicious emails, etc. but that's user stupidity and not anything security updates can fix. YOU CAN NOT FIX STUPID.

granted IG/Whatsapp/Youtube are used to hack you, but that's more app developers issue, not user.

I would never recommend any samsung phone because of the bloatware and performance drain after updates. Oneplus however, is so nice. just upgraded to OP8P, never going back to samsung ever again.
The chances are you getting hacked are very slim, but it's possible. We are not Colonial Pipeline or the biggest Meat Production company to deal with ransomware or other bs. And you should know one thing, regular users are getting hacked lately more often than you think. It's becoming a lucrative business. You could be the next victim getting your identity stolen or bank account hacked. We have to do everything possible to secure our home network, cars ( yes, cars - they all will be connected one day ), TVs and bunch of other things to reduce the risk of getting hacked. You are not worse or better than people getting hacked every day. Again, you could be the next one. Don't tell me you have never been connected to Hotel or Public WiFi. Sometimes we have no choice.

TLDR. It's a good practice to be aware of Zero Day vulnerabilities and security updates. Next 15-20 years we are going to leave in a completely different and scary digital age.

Everything is possible, no argument there. but not buying a phone because you don't get security updates is nonsense. i stand by my statement. keep clear of sketchy apps, public wifi, phish etc (don't be stupid) and its better than any security updates a company might push out. If its samsung, 6months too late.

unless the apps on my de-googled phone has vulnerabilities, i'm going to say i'm safe. I have never connected to any outside network on my main phone, my dummy phone has but thats why i have 2 phones.

Zero Day, you can't avoid. i minimize the risk by avoiding newly released phones, and use roms that have security in mind vs ease of use.

I don't know why we got off on a tangent, but Pixel 3 is a solid phone. IDK about being a main phone, but def solid 2nd phone.

Correct, which is the phone I am talking about. I said in my first post that one of the features of the A71 over the 3 XL is 5G. Hence A71 5G. Right?

Where do you see that? This deal is expired anyway and would rather have a phone that gets a few updates and has 5g if possible. Last time I saw a deal on the a71 was months ago directly from Samsung. It was around $280ish (maybe a little less if you could round up a coupon or two online but my question is what "older phones" as you put it were worth $200 trade in? If your talking about some newer deal then I'm sorry, I didn't find it when I searched.
It was a really good deal direct from Samsung at the time, and the trade in was an old iPhone 7. Times have changed recently, and there really haven't been many good deals on phones. Unlike used cars, used phones aren't worth much anymore, it seems!

Here was the deal (it was end of NOV 2020):

Yeah, but you said better deals are possible but haven't seen any "better deals" in a while now. This phone seems to be the best deal around lately.

I got this phone delivered yesterday. Battery was dead. It was replacing a Pixel 3A XL which I was more than happy with, runs great and is still in excellent condition. I was curious. Could a phone, 17 months older be better? It is! Hands down. For $199, I took a shot and it paid off. I'm very happy with it. I've never used the word "Buttery" to illustrate the smoothness of anything, but this is. It's at 47% now from a full charge yesterday, with 3 hr,13 min of screen usage. This is of coarse including updating from 9 to 10, security patches ,than to 11 with the patches. Maybe an hour and half or so with the screen on with updating and installing. The rest was just the usual of messing around with it.

Not a good sign that the battery was totally dead. Makes you wonder how long it's been dead sitting like that and if it shortened the life expectancy. They must've found some really old stock sitting around from 2 years ago. No wonder they were on sale.

What do you expect? Google making fresh stock to sell it for $200? Of course this is all old stock being cleared out so having a dead battery is not surprising.

I don't expect anything LOL, but it was suggested earlier in the thread that these may not be too old since Google manufactured these for another 2 years after release, but having a completely dead battery kind of points to these being very old stock (probably close to the 3 year mark). I'm no battery guru but I was just pointing out that a completely dead lithium battery can mean that it is not in tip top shape, especially if it was in that state for a while.

Got it. Pixel 3 at retail price was not selling well so that's why Google has so much inventory left especially not pink color. These are new units with warranty so if battery craps out hopefully Google will replace it under warranty.
