Original Quality after the mentioned date will count against your account storage, so it would be best to just use their unlimited Storage Saver.
The rest of the phones including their 'a' variants get unlimited Storage Saver as of now.
As for ownership, it doesn't matter if you're the 5th owner of an original Pixel, as long as it's linked to your Google account, that specific model will get you unlimited original quality... only if uploaded from that device.
This probably works well if you're indoors a lot but it sounds like a hassle to worry about battery health if you're someone who is often outdoors.
Also, it probably only makes sense to do this if you're keeping your devices 4-5 years or more. I've used plenty of phones for 3 years while charging nightly and the batteries were still decent towards the end. Not great, but decent.

Mine arrived a couple days ago. Ugly phone, notch is huge. Otherwise a good screen. Pretty good internal speakers as well.
RMA just started. Deal breaking reason? DEFECTIVE BATTERY. The rumors are true. 3+ years of storage likely did it in. B&H has been flexible with returns in the past and I expect will confirm the RMA soon.
