This CPU cooler is a direct fit instead of stock. I got down from 82C to 53C. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08F21X...UTF8&psc=1

Tips for installation:
1) remove cooler and CPU, clean old paste
2) install new cooler base - adjust the screws
3) remove cooler base, plug in cooler fan
4) install CPU and drop of thermal paste
5) install cooler base ( note letter V orientation, so you don't have it upside down like me
6) install fan on cooler base
Just wanted to say thank you for including the power supply details in the title!
Likewise!! That needs to be mandatory for PC posts on SD.

Any idea if this would fit a rtx 3090 or 3080?

Thanks. Is there a specific order that I'll need to install it? Such as first and third or second a fourth slots? I've heard that it's finicky.
I put mine in the same color slot clips, so staggered. cpuid says they are running dual channel. The dell stick is 3200 single rank and the crucial is 2666 dual rank. The bios recognized the new memory on first boot. I have also read a long thread on the Dell community where the guy ran into trouble using an unsupported configuration (2x8 + 2x16) = 48GB but got it sorted eventually.

Seriously doubt it but I will measure my card dimensions tomorrow when I get it. Get your dimensions and post here. The other issue is a potential conflict with something else on the board. I'll bet someone has put together a list of what is known to fit though...

UPDATE: Video card is 5-3/4 L x 4-1/2 H x 1-1/2 W. There is nothing behind that would block a longer card but I'm afraid the limiting factor will be the power supply. There is only one 6 pole (molex") connector at the card and nothing else left on the P/S. This means whatever card you are looking at has to run full speed on the single molex connector. That will be your governing factor.

Yes you can just add another 8gb. If it is not too late to answer your question, pg. 16 of the Dell XPS 8940 manual provides all the possible configurations. I recommend Crucial through Amazon.CT8G4DFRA266. That is what I used in my last 8940. Ordering again for this one.

● 8 GB, 2 x 4 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM, dual-channel
● 8 GB, 1 x 8 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM
16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM, dual-channel
● 16 GB, 1 x 16 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM
● 32 GB, 1 x 32 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM
● 32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM, dual-channel
● 64 GB, 2 x 32 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM, dual-channel
● 64 GB, 4 x 16 GB, DDR4, 2666 MHz/2933 MHz, UDIMM, dual-channel
NOTE: The computer is shipped with 3200 MHz memory. However, with Intel Core i3/i5 processors, it is limited to 2666 MHz. With Intel Core i7/i9 processors, it is limited to 2933 MHz.
I bought the Crucial RAM, but I have to wonder, does it matter if I install the 2666 MHz vs the 3200? I ordered a 32GB stick of the 2666, but the 3200 is only a bit more. Might have been worth it to add to another computer down the line.

Also, to anyone that knows: Can I install the 32GB crucial memory alongside the 8GB installed stick from Dell? Or just remove the 8GB stick? The specs on that chip are 3200 MHz, not sure about everything else.

The ram speed is limited by the m/b so it cannot exceed 2666 on this machine, but as you pointed out for a few dollars more you may carry that ram to another machine some day. I was going to do that but the 3200 ship time was a week, so I got the 2666.

Obviously you will try the 32/8 combo (put in different color slots (white/black), but 40 GB is not supported officially, according to the manual. OTH, one guy on the Dell community got 48 GB working, so it is worth giving it a try and please report back.

Will do. Thanks. I've only ever replaced the RAM on a garbage machine for my parents many, many years ago so it may take awhile to quantify what's happening in my system lol. There are variables that I never considered.

Anyone plan to sell the original 8GB ram? PM me. I am surprised that I couldn't find any sellers in E-bay. Depending on the price, I will either buy an 8GB one or sell mine to get a 16G pair.

FYI,
I've received this PC two days ago and let it run nonstop. The PC doesn't get hot at all. The only upgrade I did was added an additional 16GB of RAM.
I am going to return the CPU cooler and additional fan. Don't need them. I don't play game, BTW.

Some people asked if the PC have additional SATA cable, I saw two spare SATA cables.

$120 AMEX credit applied to my account too :

Yes, I received an email from AMEX shortly after I placed my order.
subject: "Great news! You recently used your Amex Offer at DELL MARKETING"

I saw the credit posted to my account after the package was delivered.

What slots does it have to add another HD or SSD? What would y'all recommend?
