I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

I just found some info on this at Doctor of credit :
You can apply now in a Chase branch for the new 100,000 points Sapphire Preferred signup bonus and get the $95 annual fee waived, plus a $50 credit to offset grocery purchases.
Here's how it'll work: during signup the offer will be showing the older offer of 80,000 points after spending $4,000, waived $95 annual fee, and $50 grocery credit. After meeting the spend, you'll get the 80,000 points bonus and you'll also automatically get a separate credit for 20,000 points. This is detailed in a memo being sent out to bankers, see below.
We wrote earlier today that the 100,000 offer is already available in some branches, yet readers reported being told that they were only being told about the 80,000 + $50 offer. In fact, some of the official signage will continue to show the 80,000 offer, but Chase has assured bankers that an additional 20,000 points will automatically be applied once the spend is met. Both points bonuses will credit on the same statement when you meet the spend, as detailed in the memo.
Best is to try confirming with your banker before applying since it's possible these details vary by branch. Personally, if I'm not able to verify with the banker, I'd just apply in-branch and hope for the best that this is the case.
I also got a screenshot of the memo or I can post a link to the post with it but not sure if that ok here.
So.. question for youse. To quickly get to the $4k spend amount could you not just add the Chase card as a payment option in PayPal.. send money via PayPal to a friend. Then have that friend pay you back to pay off your card?
For those that got the card in branch, do your reward activity summary just show 80,000? I'm aware they will add the 20,000 separately, just want to check to see if others are in the same boat.
Can you apply to the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Chase Sapphire Preffer within 24 hours, but on different days, and still get the promo points on both cards?
I always do these bonuses at the wrong time. I applied in April because I thought 80k was good. It went from 80k to 60k last Nov so I thought 80k was the highest it could go.
If you're picking a card for earning points through % cashback the Freedom is better. The point of this card is
Transfer freedom points into this card and the points instantly worth 1.25x on Chase Travel
Get the 100k bonus every 4 years. 100k back on 4k spending is 25% which is much higher than 5% from Freedom. (Minus $95 annual fee, which used to be waived when applying in branch)
Additional perks compared to Freedom (0 foreign transaction fee, LDW on rental cars, etc) which may or may not be useful. But these are free perks.
A valid strategy is to earn 5x freedom points as much as possible but do not redeem it. Every 4th year apply for the Sapphire, earn bonus and redeem all the points for 1.25c each. Downgrade the Sapphire to a freedom after 1 year and repeat.
"Get the 100k bonus every 4 years. 100k back on 4k spending is 25% which is much higher than 5% from Freedom. (Minus $95 annual fee, which used to be waived when applying in branch)".
Can you expand on this please?
If I hold the card for four years?
Or close every three years and reapply?
Sorry to sound like a noob - you perked my attention.

After you have this card for 1 year, downgrade to a freedom by calling customer service. The Freedom will have $0 annual fee. (Plus, even if you want to hold onto the Sapphire, you cannot apply for a second Sapphire if you have a Sapphire, so you must downgrade the old one before applying for a new Sapphire; you can hold multiple freedoms)
Wait 3 years.
Then apply for a new sapphire.

I applied a Sapphire Reserve Nov 2016 and closed in Nov 2017. Will I qualify for this?
Yes. The 4 years starts ticking once you've gotten a bonus, which happens after you met the spending requirement.
You probably got the bonus at around Feb 2017. Plus 4 equals Feb 2021. Feb 2021 is when you qualify for another bonus.

So I just went into Chase and was told I dont apply for this offer?
Already have Chase Sapphire Preferred, got it in 2016. But it's still open. Am I not able to apply unless I CLOSE the card and THEN wait 4 years?
Guy seemed a little inexperienced and wasn't even aware of the 100,000 points. Can't tell if he was just unaware or trying to play it off and not sign me up for whatever reason.
My current card renews in July, so trying to reapply for this new card and waive annual fee. Or just cancel the card altogether, don't travel as much since Covid these days. Thoughts?
No no. Chase won't let you apply for a second Sapphire if you already have a Sapphire. The system won't let you apply. No matter if you do it online, in branch, or call reconsideration, they can't override the system.
You can either close your Sapphire, or product change the Sapphire to a Freedom, or a Slate, or any other Chase branded non-Sapphire card. After you do that, one four day later, you no longer have a Sapphire in the system, and you can apply for a new Sapphire card.
The bonus rule is a different thing from the application rule. Completely separate. Chase says, you cannot receive a Sapphire sign up bonus if you have already received one in the prior 48 months. It doesn't start counting when you close your Sapphire. It starts counting when you get a bonus posted to your account.
If your last card was opened in 2016, then you likely qualify for a bonus right now. Obviously you cannot get the bonus because you cannot apply for the card because you already hold a Sapphire. But you do qualify for the bonus.
Call customer service on the back of the card, tell them you want a product change to the Chase Freedom. The annual fee you paid last year will be prorated refunded to you. Then wait one four days, and apply for a new Sapphire.

I have transferred my Chase sapphire reverse card to Freedom flex today. When I will be eligible to sign up for the Chase sapphire preferred card ? When I spoke with the Chase customer rep, he said it might take 1-2 billing cycles to update the credit bureaus & I was surprised that Chase uses Credit bureaus to find out if a person is enrolled in Chase Sapphire family rather than their own application ? Any insights will be greatly appreciated.. thanks a lot in advance.
With 50+ pages, I'm sure it's been asked, but I just got my 80k points from the previous deal and I still have a month or so left before reaching 3 months.
Is it still possible for me to get the extra 20k in points that come with this deal?

You cannot open a sapphire card while you still have a sapphire card. You'll need to product change it to a freedom card or close the account. Closing the account means you'll need to wait a month before applying for the new card. Product changing it means you'll need to wait 4 days before applying the new CSP. You're better off product changing it to a freedom ( no annual fee) for this reason. You can always cancel the freedom at a later date if you don't want it.

I also am leaving on Wednesday for a trip. I doubt we can get the card details online to put my trip on the new card to get to the 4K faster. Can we?
