I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

For online apps with annual fee, if we make charge amount and payment by end of first month, can we cancel and get annual fee refunded? People report success doing this on Chase Southwest card, but unclear if anyone has done this on Sapphire.
Just applied in branch. The rep was aware of the promotion. She wasn't sure about the grocery credit but verified it with her manager. I was approved on the spot. I had the 100k bonus offer on my chase app showing that I was prequalified but I wanted to get the annual fee waived and $50 grocery credit. Immediately after I called Chase to expedite my card. I should be getting it within 1-2 business days.
It's my personal experience....i got this one for my wife and asked her to get some visa debit gift cards......we were surprised that it didn't count towards the 4000 spend.....even though total spending shows over 4000 but without the 800 we spend in visa gift cards
Did you buy them in-store or on-line?
If you bought them in-store, they should have been counted.
If you bought them on-line, Blackhawk processes Kroger's on-line gift card purchases. It's possible that Blackhawk codes the gift cards as cash advances.

Data Point - Downgraded CSR to Freedom on June 11. Checked Chase app and can see the ability to apply for CSP. Went to branch and rep did not see CSP offer on my account. Will try again after 4 business days passed since downgrade.
Thanks for the data point. I did a product change on the 11th as well, but I'm going to try tomorrow.
*UPDATE* For anyone having issues with a branch not being able to apply for you!
I went into another branch today, and the banker had the same issue - he was unable to apply for the Sapphire Preferred when logged in to my account.
He called representatives at Chase and confirmed that I am completely eligible for the 100,000 point bonus, but I would need to apply online AS A GUEST. This is the only way the application currently works if you are experiencing this system glitch.
I applied as a guest and was informed that my application needed further review.
I immediately called customer service (1-800-432-3117), told them that I was looking to have my application reviewed to see what information might be necessary (you may need to confirm information or you may need to shift credit around). I was connected to another department that was able to look into the application status and see what information was necessary. As I expected, I simply needed to move credit around between a few of my Chase cards. After that, I was immediately approved with expedited shipping of the card.
NEXT STEP: The banker that I worked with told me that when I am approved, I can go back to the branch, speak with him, and he can call Chase and have the additional branch perks (waived first year AF and $50 grocery credit) added to the card since I was unable to apply in branch due to a system glitch.
I will follow up to confirm that this works.
Follow up:
After approval, I went back to the branch and had the same banker that helped me this morning call and put in the request to have the AF waived and to apply the grocery credit. The first representative he spoke with said that they had a meeting this morning and that they are clearly told that the AF can NOT be waived for anyone applying online.
He escalated to a supervisor, and because a glitch in the system prevented me from applying in branch, the supervisor was willing to put in a request to the appropriate department at Chase to waive the fee and apply the grocery credit. Despite that fact that Chase agents said that I would be required to apply online and that the branch could then call and have the AF removed, I have been told that the request is no guarantee that the fee will be waived.
I'm hoping for a positive outcome, but some issues are still up in the air. I should receive a decision in writing in 7-10 business days.
Hopefully this helps anyone that may be having the same issue as me - being unable to apply in branch. Know that it takes a bit of extra work, but you can get approved, but the branch benefits may still be denied to you.
I don't have any local Kroger store (closest one is 2400+ miles away). However, reading through other accounts of purchasing gift cards at Kroger, the cards should have been coded as "groceries" when purchased in-store.
If I were you, I'd follow up with Chase's Customer Service to find out why you weren't credited with the purchase. My guess is that they will tell you that they didn't credit you because of the way that Kroger coded the purchase. If so, I don't think you want to chase that further down the rabbit hole.

Honestly that's what exactly happened. We called chase and they said it was not coded as groceries but as gc hence not counted towards your 4k....I wanted to share it so others are cognitive of this and could suggest other ways of fulfilling the spend
Just got back from a branch. When I mentioned Sapphire promo to the Banker, he knew what I was talking about and the details (80K+20K, no annual, $50 grocery credit). Being a Chase custimer, approved and walked out in 5 mins.
