I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

I signed up in branch today, approved. Called to verify the 100k afterward and they told me it was coded as 80k no annual fee. Spoke to a manager who said they'd get it fixed. But said manager was adamant that there was no $50 grocery credit. I hate having to fight to get the advertised offer. Such a waste of time. Asked to have some kind of credit for the inconvenience. Denied on that too. Any suggestions?
Yeah. STOP calling and harassing them. There is NO WAY to verify this by calling. They can't see it. Branches have been told to offer the 100K and the system will automatically add 20K after the first 80K are earned. How hard is that and WHY is it imperative for you and others to call and get verification?

You ALREADY applied in the branch so there is no going back so why are you adding stress to your own already stressed out lives?

It takes time for their system to clear out in order for you to apply. In my case it was 6 business days. Since I live so close by the branch and it takes literally 1 minute for the rep to check, I decided to stop by every day to check till I'm able to apply.

Got it, makes sense, thanks!

Not sure if your banker is true. My wife got her card more than a week ago and no annual fee has been posted to her account yet. Sometimes the annual fee would be posted right before the billing cycle is closed. We'll see.

The annual fee is charged on the 1st day of the month following card approval. Your wife's annual fee will be posted on July 1, unless it was otherwise waived.

Note: That's from the date of card approval, not from the date when she received the card.

Hello All,

I've been following this for a couple weeks now and wanted to chime in and see if this can help anyone.

Hard Pull: Yes

Requirements:
Current Sapphire Cardholder: No
Received Sapphire Sign Up Bonus (SUB) within last 48 months: No
Online: 100K SUB, annual fee (AF) $95
In-Branch: 80K SUB + 20K Bonus upon $4k spending in 3 months, first year AF waived, $50 grocery credit
  • In-Branch offer has older materials.
  • It will list as 80K SUB, but it'll actually be 80K SUB + 20K Bonus.
  • Most, if not all branches, are offering this, but it'll depend on the knowledge of bankers understanding this offer.
Here's a couple of takeaway notes:

Whatever you do, do not cancel your previous Sapphire card! Do a product change and downgrade to some Freedom product. Cancellations will force you to wait 30 days before you're eligible to sign up for a Sapphire product again.

Like everyone said, check inside your Chase app to see if the Sapphire Preferred is available for sign up. You should see a Learn More button to apply online. But don't. Try the following before applying online.

Schedule a meeting with the banker. Call a local branch or schedule one online.

Give them your ID and see if they can pull up the Sapphire Preferred for you to apply.

If they cannot, it probably means the back-end system still has remnants or traces of the fact that you had some sort of Sapphire product. If that's the case, ask your banker to create a new profile and then apply.

They will use your ID to enter name, address, DOB, SSN etc. Once they create a new profile, the Sapphire Preferred should pop up as an option. Have your banker apply for this card in this new profile.

You should be accepted on the spot. If not, call the support line (877-882-1890) right away for quicker approval. Provide the reference number on the banker's screen. They will let you know if there are any issues. In my case, I had too much credit on my other Chase credit card. They transferred credit from the other card and used it to open this Sapphire Preferred. Once I gave the OK, they put me on a hold and completed this. Saw the credit limit from my downgraded Sapphire Reserve/Freedom Unlimited immediately deduct.

Before the call ends, ask for an expedited shipment; they will put you on hold and transfer to customer service. They will confirm name, address, phone number, and a 2FA code. The card should arrive in 2 to 3 business days.

Have your banker combine your two profiles together, keeping your existing/original profile. Once you leave the bank, the card should show up in your current profile (on the banker's screen) and in the Chase app within 15 minutes.

As with everything, YMMV. Hope this helps!

For anyone interested on where you stand and my timeline,
Credit Karma: 810+
Current Chase products: 2
Last Sapphire Reserve SUB: >48 months
Downgraded Sapphire Reserve to Freedom Unlimited: 6/12
Available to apply in Chase app: 6/16
First in-branch attempt: 6/17
Second in-branch attempt & success: 6/22

The branch manager also had the same issue where it didn't show up on his profile either. Creating a new profile solved everything!

Awesome, thank you!! I'll try again tomorrow. My banker has to keep going in the back office to ask questions. Do you know what I should tell her to create a new profile?

I've literally talked to the 2 bankers there about 4x in the past week trying to see if I was eligible. I don't wanna go in there and have them be pissed at me for scheduling an appointment, creating a new profile and it not show up again.

Just request them to create a new profile. Say you heard this helped. My banker and the branch manager got through with this process, so it should work. Or try a different branch if they're not willing to go above and beyond.

From what I remember, you should be able to open a new individual line for yourself and still qualify for the offer, chase card services is also a quick phone call away

Thanks for the time and effort posting the detailed info. Hope those noobs just spend a few minutes to read your post, stop calling and harassing the poor Chase reps. They always want to confirm, confirm, and confirm whether the system is showing 100K points. Confirm mah ass since they have already applied and submitted the application. There is no turning back no matter what. Just be patient and meet the minimum spending requirement, and then see how many points are received before raising the voice. It has been explained numerous times in this thread customers applying in branch will receive 80K + 20K points in two transactions although Chase system is still showing 80K points. The additional 20K will be automatically adjusted by the back-end. If applying online, there will be 100K points with $95 AF. AF is only waived when applying in branch. Stop calling Chase to request the AF waived because corporate already decided not to match.

I agree with you but it's still fair to say there is a lot of issues on Chase's end with this entire marketing campaign. Online applications, card member services and the branches have no idea what each other is doing. When you go in to apply for the bonus, this isn't something they're handing out as some sort of government handout. They're doing a hard credit pull on your account, and then they're generating at least $118 on your $4000 spend, and whatever else you generate in the future.

This isn't the same as going into Best Buy and trying to convince a store manager to price match Walmart for a switch. If you meet the terms, the glitches or marketing promotions need to all be laid out because it affects your credit score, your 5/24 and your eligibility for future chase promos. People are freaking out about $30 on a hot pot from Amazon prime, and people are trying to figure out how to get the full benefit of 100,000 points with $145 in credits on top of it.

It seems most of the folks here are existing Chase customers.
I've never had any kind of Chase account.

If I apply in branch, will I be stuck there for a while since I'm a brand new customer and they know nothing about me and they trying to convince me to sign up with their other services?

Curious how long the process might take before scheduling a in-branch meeting and if I should just do it online (and give up the perks especially since there seems to be some potential confusion on the perks depending on the banker/location).

I'd say if it's convenient for you to visit a branch, it's probably worth the extra time because it's not that much extra time. Just verify that they're offering 80k/no AF/50 and you're good to go since you won't have any of the old Sapphire problems. Banker showed me these exact terms on the monitor to confirm that it was what I wanted before proceeding and did happen to know about the hidden 100k.

As far as signing up a new account, it's pretty quick if you have your personal info. I'm not a new customer but I imagine it would be similar. With the current protocols, my banker literally just turned her monitor to face me, pointed at the 2nd set of wireless keyboard/mouse and had me fill out the form on their web portal anyway. So you filling it out at home isn't really a huge time difference. My guess is maybe ~15-30 mins, excluding wait time if they're busy. You could mitigate it if you can go right when they open or by making an appointment.

No in-branch upselling this time but in the past it's been maybe 1 minute tops. They do leave me a marketing type voicemail once every few years but I just ignore them and they never follow up.

In the past, they did ask for a current utility bill since I had moved but this time they didn't ask for anything other than id & account info. They seem kind of desperate for new clients so I don't think they'll actively try to antagonize you yet. Smilie

Of course, if getting to a branch is a huge hassle for your situation, it's still a decent deal online. The one disclaimer is that I was thinking about applying last month already at 80k so I'm not really that difficult to please with the current deal.

I'm going to be staying at a Hilton for about 35 days starting next month. Trying to figure out the best card to sign up for to either get the most cash back on the stay or free nights. It seems if I sign up for this card I could redeem $1000 back on my $4000 stay? Would a Hilton card give a better return than that?
