I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

When can you downgrade to avoid AF if you haven't used your reward miles yet? I'm afraid of losing my miles especially when i haven't used them yet. I'm 8 mos in already on the 60k promo and will be on yr 2 in September....don't want to pay $95 AF again.
Use them and then cancel. Simple.

You can just add up your transactions. Chase tells you your previous statement balances, current balance and pending charges. Just plug those 3 numbers into a calculator.
Exactly. This is like those old manual cars that had a light to tell you when to shift to the next gear. Thats an idiot light. Just shift by listening to the engine.

FYI per DoC:

Chase Sapphire Preferred Referrals Now Showing 100,000 Points Offer + 20,000 For Referrer
You need a Sapphire Preferred Card in order to refer someone to this offer?

I have 5 other Chase Cards, but none of those will work to refer someone to Sapphire Preferred, correct?

I applied for this credit card as well as the southwest airlines credit card, as soon as they came in I put a 2 week 2 island vacation package from costco on them. 4000 to this card 2000 to the southwest card and I'll be getting 165,000 points plus some other stuff for a vacation I would've booked anyways. woot! CC churning is great tool.

After I collect my points I'll just downgrade the CC to a free version and continue to only use my costco citi card and citi double cash card. I haven't found a CC better than this combo, most cards use this point system to confuse you, but when I calculate the cash value of a point it isn't any better than the two cards mentioned above.

You have to wait at least 12 months before they let you downgrade. From there, once you get charged the annual fee, you have 30 days to downgrade/cancel and you'll get a full refund of the annual fee that you were just charged. If it's more than 30 days, you should still get a prorated refund.

IF you have another Chase rewards card like the one of the no fee Freedom cards or one of the no fee Ink Business cards, or get one of those, then you can transfer rewards from one card to another at any time. No need to wait until you cancel or downgrade the existing card.
Best is to have a no fee Freedom card.

Value of points on travel cards is much higher if you actually use them for travel rather than cash.

For example a chase non-category card earns 1.5x on, say, costco purchases.

Using PYB or the Chase travel portal with a CSP that's 2.25 cents in rewards for each dollar spent.

Your cards only get you 2 cents in rewards per dollar spent.

For the chase cards earning 2x-5x in categories rather than just 1.5x the value add over your method is even greater.

And if you add in transfering points to hotels or airlines, where you can get 1.5-2.5 cents per point for coach fares and Hyatt rooms, or 4-6 cents per point for business or first class travel, the difference is even bigger.

For example someone getting 5x chase points on a spend, then getting 5 cents PP on a business booking to Europe, is effectively getting 25 percent return on their spend (even if they were only using it for PYB against grocery purchases that'd be between 5 and 7.5% return)

You're getting 2 percent.

Now if you very rarely/never travel... well, PYB still beats your method right now... esp for things you can get into the 3x-5x categories- but it's not quite as drastic and PYB is less flexible than cash.

That said- if you don't travel significantly you can still do better on cash-back alone with a number of options though they require some setup... (for example the Alliant 2.5% card... or BoA cards with Plat Honors where you can get 2.625% on anything and over 5% on a couple of categories)

Wait a week after downgrading then apply (as long as its been at least 48mo since any Sapphire bonus) -- Chase doesn't approve card without sign up bonus (Amex will do that)
I waned to post an update on my (husband's) experience. He went into the branch today (8th business day after downgrading), and the banker could see he was eligible but couldn't apply him. He asked her to apply via guest profile and that worked. She was impressed and appreciative for the workaround. 100k points + AF waived + $50 grocery credit confirmed. Thank you Slickdeals!

yes, business and personal cards are separate products. don't have to wait 48 months for one even if you have the other.
