I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

General merchant gift card purchase will not be charged as cash advance. You can buy them online or from B&M stores.

From where? I thought you have to buy them from select places so they are not charged as cash advances. (Thank you for the recs!)

I reached out to Chase regarding converting my unused Slate card to something more rewarding like Sapphire proffered or Unlimited which I was approved for both in the Chase app. I was told they can convert ( product change) my slate to either card but I would not qualify for the sign up bonus.

what do you guys recommend…..either card is better than my Slate. Should I go for for the unlimited since it's no annual fee or should I go for the preferred because it a more prestigious card?

should I get the unlimited and wait until they offer the preferred again and signup with whatever new bonus they got?

Thanks.

I waited two days and got denied, even though it showed as freedom unlimited online. I then waited three more days, reapplied, and got accepted.

The nice part was that during that time, they upped the referral bonus to 20k for everyone, so I actually benefited!

For those who will apply online and doesn't have a friend to refer you, there are several sellers on eBay selling their referral link for $80 to $120 for rebate
Really? Holy cow, those sellers should be paying the buyers/users - those sellers will receive 20k points when their referral link is used!

That's what I mean, the seller is selling their link for you to apply and will pay you after you get approved

Just want to make sure - is the 48 month rule mean the time you applied (got approved), received the last bonus (after spending X amount) or the time when you cancelled the last sapphire card? Thanks for an answer!

Ah, I see them. They are selling their referral code for a nominal/minimal amount and promising you a refund after your approval. Got it.

You can do a similar deal at using Reddit's Sign-Ups for Pay ( https://www.reddit.com/r/signupsforpay/ ) without buying anything on eBay.

But why would you do this? Only the one sending the referral link gets the bonus. You are doing extra work to give a stranger money with no benefit for yourself.

I don't understand, why wouldn't you just apply for the Preferred now?

I don't really see a value to converting the Slate card. If you want a card that gets you points, I would just apply for one with a sign up bonus, whether it's the Preferred or not.

You would do this because, similar to the eBay deal, each Poster on that Reddit is promising to share and pay the User of Poster's referral code a portion of the Poster's 20k referral bonus. And on Reddit (as opposed to eBay), you don't have to pay the Referrer anything.

So you are paying $95 to give your family member $200? Will they at least give you your $95 back? If not, I'd pass.
You are forgoing $145 in benefits (not just the $95 in annual fee waiver) to use your family member's code so that they can receive $200. People often do this when the referrer is their spouse.

You should (1) apply for the CSP, and (2) upgrade the Slate to Unlimited to create a Chase Bifecta (you will be able to earn 1.5 points per $ everywhere and move those points to the CSP).
