I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

You are absolutely right. AMEX is the only rare card issuer that has soft pull on pre-approval offer. However, not all AMEX pre-approval offer works this way. It is just AMEX Gold is one of them.

Ah I see, with AMEX I didnt get a hard pull when I was preapproved for Gold card last year.
It has to be 48 months since your last bonus was received before you can apply again. This applies to both SUB and the approval of a new Sapphire card.

I want to apply for CSP to get the 100k bonus, but I have a bunch of points that I plan to use at the end of year for travel. To use the points at 1.5x, I need CSR. I understand I cannot "upgrade" CSP to CSR until after one year. I am thinking to have my wife applying CSR, and I can transfer my points to her account to use them at 1.5x. The issue is, she received a CSP bonus 2 years ago (account is closed now), so it has not been 48 months. Will she be able to apply CSR without the sign-up bonus? Or she must meet the sign-up bonus 48 month requirement before she will get approved for CSR?

I see, so this method is a no go even if I don't care about SUB since she cannot get approved for the CSR.
First, the rep was wrong. You are not eligible if you received the similar Sapphire bonus in the last 48 months, not account closure in 48 months. Chase only allows customers to have one Sapphire card. What you can do is ask for a product change to another no-fee card, say Chase Unlimited, from your no-fee Sapphire card. Once done, wait 3 to 5 days and then refer your spouse to apply. Do not straightly close the no-fee Sapphire card because it would take up to 30 days to update on Chase system. By that time this offer will probably have expired.
Your detailed answers are very helpful. Thanks a lot!
He already has a regular Freedom card and was thinking about getting a new Freedom card with $200 bonus. So if he convert his no-fee Sapphire to one of the new Freedom cards, he won't be able to get the $200 bonus, right?
If that is the case, another option we have is to wait until next time a similar offer comes up to apply for a new CSP for him (at the risk that a similar offer may never show up again).
There are 3 Freedom cards, the old Freedom Visa which cannot be applied no more, the Freedom Flex Mastercard, and the Freedom Unlimited Visa. You are right. Product change to a card that is new to you will disqualify you for the sign up bonus of the same card. It is your call whether you want to take advantage of the CSP offer valued $1250, or $200 on your next Freedom.

It is all about the offer shown on the referral link. If it shows 100K then the applicant will receive 100K. The 20K points only goes to the person who makes the referral. The applicant will get nothing except the sign-up bonus.
Any idea how long it takes to see the Referral bonus on the referrer's end and by when does the applicant's bonus counter show up?
I have no experience with CSP, but I did refer my spouse to get Freedom Flex 6 months ago. Referral bonus credited to my account in next statement after my spouse first swiped her card. Her SUB points showed up in the same billing cycle after the minimum spend was met.

Thanks! Will wait until making the first swipe to see if the counter shows up. As for referral bonus, I guess we'll get to know only after next statement credit. My spouse did not receive any confirmation email stating that the referral had kicked in. So just wanted to confirm.
Nope. There was no confirmation at all. I knew my spouse applied via my referral link and I was just patiently waiting for the bonus to show up.
