I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Just an update as I've been trying to obtain this incentive since early June.
I cleared the 48 months since I obtained my sapphire preferred in may 2017. I called the number on the back of the card and they said I need to cancel and wait a month then re-apply. I move forward as they mention I can re-open the account if within 2 months after cancellation.
I initially go into the branch and they don't have the 100k, fee waiver, and credit. They only have 80k.
I go into a different branch last week and they have the 100k and annual fee waiver but don't see the card for me to apply. I see on the chase app for the 100k for me to apply but no annual fee waiver.
I go into a different branch this morning. They still don't see the card for me to apply on their system.
This is proving to be very frustrating and may just apply online since I see the offer when logged into my account.
As an update, I applied for the CSP in branch on June 15 and got approved. In the mobile app, it shows 80K even though I have multiple confirmations about getting the extra 20K points. My grocery credit was awarded almost immediately as the charge posted.
I just spent the $4K required, and was wondering if anyone knew how long it took for the 100K points to get posted? App says it can take up 8 weeks, but was curious if its faster than that?
So should I cancel today and then try to go to apply in a few days? Or am I not eligible for CSP again?
If it has been 4+ years since you received the signup bonus on your original CSP, you can be eligible for this offer.
In that case, 1) you need to downgrade the existing plain Sapphire to one of the Freedom cards. 2) you need to wait at least 4 days after making the downgrade/product change. At that point, you can apply online for a new CSP. 3) People have reported not being able to apply in branch soon after downgrading - it seems that your eligibility is not reset/updated for in-branch applications until either the next billing cycle or 30 days after the downgrade.

Chase doesn't reset your eligibility for In-Branch applications until 30 days after downgrade. Or if you are lucky, once your next statement cycle begins. If you applying sooner, you have to apply online. No way around it.
Cancelled on 6/14 so maybe need to give it a couple more days. I have an appointment with 1 other branch Thursday so we will see what happens. Will circle back

Yikes...4 years? I thought it was 2 years? I changed my Sapphire to a Freedom Unlimited yesterday.
Both my account and my spouse's account will have the 100K pts credited in the next statement. Another member here reported he and his wife's 100K points were immediately posted once $4K spend is met, although he withdrew his comment for a reason later.

OK..my small brain hurts after reading a boatload of comments...If starting from no card, how can I take advantage of this? Have a rather large medical expense coming...myself and wife could take advantage...thank you!!!
Prepaying bills for normal businesses (utilities/insurance/etc.) is fine. Taxes are fine too. Business gift cards (like Costco/Amazon) are fine. Visa gift cards are more questionable.
Some of the other "cash-like transactions" mentioned above are also more questionable, like crypto, venmo to a friend, etc. Chase specifically called those out as not counting when they updated their policies in April this year: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ch...k-funding/
If you're going to roll the dice on cash transactions at least set your cash advance limit to 100 so the transaction will decline if it's coded as a cash advance (and the amount you're trying is >100) instead of a purchase. It seems kind of random on what will count and also changes over time as they adjust what they actually enforce.
I used to prepay electric before and it was never "cash advance". They charged me extra couple dollars for the transaction, regardless of the amount. It looks like they offer credit card payment online now, it's even less than $2
However it looks like credit card can treat such transaction as "cash advance? Am I reading it correctly (below)? thanks

if you don't have any Sapphire cards right now you're free to go ahead and apply!
I will be referring my SO. Do you know if I will still earn the referral bonus if I downgrade my card after she is approved when applying through my link?

One person goes to branch to apply -- $95 annual fee is waived in branch
Generate referral link using first person's card then other person applies for card using referral link -- P2 pays $95 annual fee online but P1 gets 20k referral pts worth at least $200

Near as I can figure out is that because your credit card number doesn't change and because your UR account remains the same, you will get the referral bonus when it processes (one to two statements after your friend's account is opened).

48 months since last time you got a Sapphire bonus is when you're eligible for a new sapphire bonus.

The new rule could make things funding bank accounts [doctorofcredit.com], buying crypto, lotto/gambling, P2P payments on Venmo or Paypal [doctorofcredit.com], PayPal Key, [doctorofcredit.com]and even using bill payment services to be considered cash advances.
