I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

If only it were that simple! Seehearspeak

... There are the other perks that come with the CSR that need to be considered ($300 annual travel credit; $60 DoorDash credit, $100 application fee credit for Global Entry/TSA PreCheck, Priority Pass Select lounge access, 3X points earned on travel purchases).
... There is the question of timing (when do you need to redeem the points).
... There is the question of overall strategy (which card are you going to product change to, are you later going to upgrade back to the CSR, or wait four years to apply for a new CSR bonus).
... There is a small risk that one of the steps will go wrong (for example, the CSP application not approved).
... There is the intangible value of owning a CSR that defies logic. People willingly pay the annual fee without getting anywhere near $500 cash value for it.
... And then there's the question of how much benefit will be derived from the rotating 5% categories of the CFF (downgraded CSR).

Notwithstanding the above comments, I agree with your assessment. For the average customer, who doesn't do a tremendous amount of traveling and who doesn't have an immediate need to redeem the points, it makes sense to product change from the Chase Sapphire Reserve and sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred 100K bonus.

P.S.

In retrospect, I probably should have responded to the original message. You were just trying to break down the math (not an evaluation of the relative benefits). Peace
I have the same question, and straggling to decide whether downgrade CSR to freedom and apply for CSP. I do not have lots of UR points in my account now.
My CSR annual fee will post on next January, so I can still get $300 credit to be spent on this December.
I will probably need Priority pass benefit at airport lounges.
I will upgrade back to CSR for sure next year and downgrade the CSP (if I can get it approved) to chase freedom.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks!

thanks for the info! I downgraded on monday and am going to try online next monday to be safe laugh out loud
You can also check if it shows up in the "Offers" section on the Chase website when you login. It showed up there for me less than a week after the downgrade.

How to redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points for maximum value [thepointsguy.com]

Quote from tenderidol :
The card is on the way. Need to do some reading to maximize UR points since the family is starting to travel again. I'll be able to transfer all the UR points from other Chase cards to CRP, correct?

My card stopped working, gives an error with chip readers and tap to pay doesnt work. Some readers still allow swiping which works fine though. Never had that happen before, not sure if it's related to the metal form factor or something else. Weird in any case, so I had to order a replacement card.

Transfer to airlines for business class flights overseas.... can often get values in the 4-6 cents per point range.

I got the CSR on release and enjoyed all the benefits. I'm also in the UR ecosystem so I bank points till I can maximize their use. I downgraded it to a Freedom card and applied for this CSP SUB. The biggest benefit I'll miss is the Priority Pass but I'm willing to sacrifice that for a year to get the SUB. Next year I'll probably upgrade it to a CSR even with the annual fee increase. I keep the CSP/R around mainly for UR transfers and primary car rental insurance.

I am thinking the same, will downgrade the coming CSP and upgrade the other card which is downgraded from CSR back to CSR next year.
How many days did you wait after downgraded CSR to freedom card?
Which card did you downgrade to, Chase Freedom or Freedom unlimited?
Thanks!

I downgraded, lowered the credit line for all my Chase cards, waited 7 days and received immediate approval. I downgraded to CFU since I've received a SUB for that card and haven't for the CFF. Will apply for CFF at some point to get that SUB.

Uggh, trying to decide what to do with my CSR too. Have 145k points now. I had CSP (with SUB) and downgraded to CFU a few years ago. I also already have CFF.

My CSR $550 annual fee will show up on Sep 1. So thinking of downgrading CSR beforehand and applying for CSP again to get the 100k bonus. Not sure what I would downgrade CSR to though...

Ensure you're CSP bonus was received at least 48 months ago.

If so just downgrade to another CFF or CFU. I have 3 CFU concurrently since I had to downgrade both my CSR and regular CS that I still had from years ago.

Thanks!

My CSP was approved in Feb 2016, so bonus should have posted more than 48 months ago. So I guess it makes sense to apply again for 100k and downgrade CSR to CFU/CFF.

Now whether to spend/redeem any of my points at 1.5x before downgrading. I don't use my points on hotels much or first/business travel. Thinking about a Europe trip with the family next year though...

Can we still apply in a branch to waive the AF and receive the full 100k bonus? If so, how long does it take to get the card?
