I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Wouldn't risk it as it can be categorized as a cash advance which doesn't count. Not only that, but you won't get the additional 25 percent pay yourself back making the 100k points worth $1250 and can be used as a credit toward that charge for grocery store and home improvement store purchases to nullify the charge as a statement credit.
Merchant GCs purchased online will never ever coded as cash advance. It will be coded as purchase and counted towards $4K minimum spend.
I personally purchased $6K prepaid Visa/MasterCard for two CSPs and got all the reward points flawlessly. Of course purchases from PYB categories can maximize the reward points, but buying these prepaid cards creates more flexibility for me. I purchased them from Staples when Staples charged no fees on them. Based on the UR points received, I can only max out about $1300 per card. So as long as I have $1300 out of $4000 spending threshold on PYB categories, I am still able to max out all the points.

Is there any compelling reason to keep this card after we get the 100k bonus? Seems like the standard perks aren't that great.
It's a travel card so if you don't really travel much and/or can't take advantage of the travel partners, there's likely better options for pure cash back, especially if they end PYB within a couple months.
Starting August 16th Chase is changing their rewards/points system for sapphire preferred.
Notable improvements:
1) Restaurants and all other food delivery service will earn 3 points for every dollar
2) At account anniversary Chase will add 10% of points from the spending for the whole year (if you spend $15000 they'll add 1500 points during account anniversary)
3) $50 credit towards travel after account anniversary next time for existing customers (New customers are eligible for $50 travel credit from first year)
4) 5 points for every dollar spent on chase ultimate rewards.
5) 3 points for every dollar spent on online grocery (excluding Walmart and target)
I just got it thanks! After I get the bonus I'll go back to my Freedom Unlimited 1.5%. (It's nice to be able to pay rent on a credit card! It's like a rent rebate.)
What do you mean you can pay rent with your credit card?

Then it is a sign that the current 10k offer will expire after 08/16?
I have CSR, considering whether downgrade to freedom and then apply for CSP. Because it need to wait for a few days and by that time this offer will already expired.
For those downgrading from CSR to CFU and then applying for CSP, have you NOT received the CSR annual fee prorated refund? Did you call to get the refund?
I downgraded more than a month ago, no refund yet.

Couple of reasons I keep this card (or the CSR):
1.) Primary Car Rental Insurance (I once backed up a car rental into a metal sculpture and incurred $5k+ damage that Chase covered %100 via a claim - didn't even involve my car insurance company at all).
2.) Chase UR partner transfers (I have other Chase UR cards and maximize point generation via categories)
3.) Priority Pass when I had the CSR
4.) Book travel with points
5.) Less value to me but I do make use of the additional perks like DashPass, PYB, TSA-Precheck, etc.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking, don't travel enough.

Thanks! Yeah I'll have to check which of my cards offer rental insurance before canceling. Or might upgrade to CSR one day.
I actually called the customer service number and asked if they can waive the fee. I told them that I should have just done it at the branch if I knew that the fee is waived for the first year over there, and they did refunded me.
I made the same mistake of signing up online a few minutes ago (rather than at a branch). I've spoken to 3 customer reps so far and none are willing to refund the fee (using the same reasoning you provided above). If other folks have been successful in clawing back the annual fee please share some tips?

Again, its $95. Its not the end of the world. You're still coming out more than $1100 ahead. Do people even do math?
This is just an ethical problem. You can't stop this. Just like those who have worn their shoes for 3 months and then return them to Costco for a full refund. Poor Chase reps continue getting harassed by these people.
