I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

I got my Chase Sapphire Reserve card downgraded to Freedom Unlimited about 2 months ago to qualify for this offer. After getting my 100,000 points on the Chase Sapphire Prefer, now I am upgrading my Freedom Unlimited back to the Chase Sapphire Reverse so I can use the 1.5X pay yourself back plus all the other benefits.

Not sure if someone already mentioned that this could be done.

Reserve to unlimited.
Get Prefer card.
Unlimited to Reserve card and transfer all your points.

Exactly what I am thinking. I have had CSR since Jan 2017, it is the best card I am really like to pay annual fee comparing to AMEX platimum which is so tough on reimbursement. Also you are right, almost most of those benefits from CSR are not useful for me.
The most features from CSR that I like are:
1, 1.5x travel redemption.
2, Airport lounges from priority pass.
3, Global entry.
4, $300 travel reimbursement is so easy to get comparing to AMEX.
But since the pandemic, there is no plan of travel recently, so increased annual fee from CSR is waste to me, and 100k bonus points from CSP is too good to miss.
Downgrade, get the Prefer card + Points, upgrade back to the Reserve and transfer all your points.

Did you successfully already do this? Chase doesn't allow you to have 2 sapphire type cards at the same time.

You are not allowed to upgrade/downgrade/product change your CSP within the first year. In addition, you can only have one Sapphire card at a time.

I think the Chase Sapphire rule that most people are concerned about is the 48 month rule for earning the sign up bonus. I don't think that means one person can't have both the Preferred and the Reserve cards though. You just wouldn't earn the bonus for the second card if you signed up for it within 48 months of receiving the bonus from the first card.

The person you're replying to is talking about product changing their Freedom Unlimited card to a Sapphire Reserve, so they wouldn't care about missing out on the bonus because they're not eligible to begin with.

I am talking about the product change. I don't think you are allowed to have two sapphire cards for any reason: product change, new card sign up, anything.

However, product change back to a sapphire reserve doesn't happen often. So I'm curious to see if they actually were able to product change the unlimited back to a reserve. My understanding is that won't work. Then they're stuck with a preferred for a year before they can change any card back to a reserve.

After hitting the $4K min spend within 90 days, if you use some of the bonus points on the pay yourself back program would that count against the original $4K min spend?

Point redemption via PYB does not disqualify the original purchases. Those purchases would still count towards the $4K minimum spend.

I stand corrected, thanks for the explanation.

First, check another member's post regarding your eligibility here.

If your last Sapphire bonus was received more than 48 months ago and you have not violated the Chase 5/24 rule, you are eligible again to apply for CSP and get the 100K sign-up bonus. The best approach for you is as followed.

1. Check any purchases in the past 90 days on your CSR categorized as grocery, home improvement, restaurant (including takeout), charity, and Lyft? If you do, then use Chase Pay Yourself Back option to get statement credit with 1.5x redemption value.

2. Use up all the other perks of CSR.

3. Transfer the UR points of the CSR to another Freedom account.

4. Call Chase to downgrade your CSR to another no-fee card. Keep in mind you are allowed to have more than one Freedom card. You can also request a prorated refund of the annual fee of the CSR.

5. Once the downgrade is complete, which usually takes 5 to 7 days, go to a local branch to sign up your CSP and have the $95 annual fee waived for the first year. If you know anyone or family member who has CSP, you can apply through his referral link and he will get 20K points as referral bonus once you are approved. You can only pick either option, not both.

6. Once you activate your CSP, you can transfer the UR points back from the Freedom account anytime, take advantage of PYB option but with 1.25x redemption value for CSP. The PYB option will end 09/30/21.

Why is Step 1 recommended here? Is it bc when your product switch... you'll lose points/value on those purchases in the last 90 days?

Because with the CSR you can get 1.5x redemption value on PYB categories. Once you product change your CSR, you can no longer enjoy the same redemption value although you are able to retain your points.

Yes, I just did it.
The change was instant and already transferred/used all my points with the reserve account.

I called over the phone.

Well, I just did it. I now have prefer and reserve cards. I do have a high limit, not sure if that made the difference.

Yes, I was able to do it over the phone. They made it clear that by doing a product change, I would not qualify for the sign in bonus. What I wanted is the benefits of the reserve and use all my 100K points from the prefer card with the 1.5X benefit.

because of the ongoing pandemic, i'm not really able to travel. is there another way to downgrade to the freedom limited card so i won't get charged the annual $95 fee again(Oct 10th will be first year with CSP) without losing my reward points?
