I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

My wife and I downgraded our CSR card today.

Factoring in labor day, is Friday too early to apply for the new CSP or should I wait longer?

Can I simply schedule an appt by phone from the local branch or must I go to the branch in person?

Thanks in advance.

No one really knows how long it takes for Chase's system to clear itself of the old Sapphire Reserve account sufficiently to allow for the application of a new Sapphire Preferred. However, empirical data seems to indicate 1-2 weeks:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=149341894&postcount=4182

That's for in-branch applications.

It's about twice as fast for online applications.

And you might want to consider Tazmania99's strategy for couple sign-ups:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=148898857&postcount=3400

(You've already completed Step 1 and you're waiting for the Reserve cards to clear Chase's system before doing Step 2.)

This may be obvious to some but if you plan on using the 100k points as a statement credit, be sure to use the "pay myself back" feature first. It will look at all your recent transactions and show you which ones qualify for $1.25 value per point redeemed. I was able to use most of my 100k points for over $1200 in qualifying transactions. Basically I got a $1200 credit instead of $1,000

I checked with Chase via Secure Messages as to whether I could do a product change from Freedom to Sapphire Reserve, while simultaneously keeping my Sapphire Preferred. This was the response (emphasis added to key points):
Thank you for contacting Chase.

We appreciate you taking the time to write into us. I will be happy to assist you.

We don't issue more than one Sapphire credit card per customer for new applications.

Let me share there is no credit check done on your credit report when you do a product change on your account.

We're happy to help you change your account ending XXXX to our Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card, but we cannot do this by email because it requires a detailed review of your account and additional questions.

You will not be eligible for the sign up bonus offer as this is only available on new applications.

Please call us at the number on the back of your card to get started. We accept operator relay calls.

I hope the information provided has addressed your concern today. Have a pleasant day.
What's the logic of having the Sapphire Preferred and Reserve simultaneously?

interesting, were these travel expenses or just regular purchases?

I need to book plane tickets and may not have my credit before I need to buy them and if I can get 1.25 "paying myself back" on these I would be perfectly fine with that

I was approved for the Sapphire preferred card....already done the qualifying spend and got the 100K points bonus.

I still have the basic Chase freedom card which has over 50K points.

What is the best course of action for me? Should I be transferring my points from the Freedom card to the Sapphire card before I do the "Pay Myself Back".

Just trying to figure out how to maximize the value of my points.

Yes, transfer to CSP before you pay yourself back. But if you want to maximize the value of your points... you may want to wait until you can upgrade to the CSR (or transfer to someone in your household with that card).

The best way to maximize would be to transfer to travel partners and book flights. That would give you a higher redemption rate than 1.25 cents per point.

Thank you so much for such a quick reply! Do I have to call in the customer service to transfer my points from the Freedom card to CSP or can it be done online?

What would I need to qualify for the CSR card? How much extra do I get with the CSR card?

Apparently for the 100K SUB points of CSP but loving the 1.5x redemption value of CSR along with other perks such as $300 travel credit, $60 DoorDash credit, and access to airport lounges that you don't get with the CSP.

You don't need to call Chase to transfer points. You can do it on the UR portal and point transfer is instant. You can also transfer points between household members but have to call Chase to add the household members.

The criteria to sign up CSR is pretty much the same as CSP. You can't have more than one Sapphire card at a time. But this seems to only apply to new applicants. Another member has reported that he called to upgraded his Freedom card to CSR while having CSP simultaneously.

A senior member here was even kind enough to contact Chase to find out more details about the possibility of holding two Sapphire cards simultaneously.

Also note that you are not allowed to product change/downgrade/upgrade your CSP within the first year. If you intend to convert the CSP to CSR, that can only be done after a year.

The major differences between CSP and CSR are with CSR you get 1.5x redemption value, $300 travel credit, $60 DoorDash credit, and access to airport lounges that you don't get with the CSP but the annual fee for CSR is $550.

Product change/upgrade/downgrade will not qualify for the sign-up bonus. Only new applicants will get it.

But then you have to fly and spend money. I thought cash is king so that you can use it to invest and earn even more cash.

Alex, your account ending in xxx was change from a Sapphire Reserve® Card to your current Freedom® Card on August 30, 2021

You are currently eligible to change your existing credit card to the Sapphire Preferred® Card product, but you won't be eligible to receive the new cardmember bonus if you change products.

It's been 1 week since I PC the CSR to freedom. Will reattempt later this week.

To each their own. For example, I'm eyeing a 2 night stay at a really nice hotel that would otherwise cost $2,200 a night for the same room. So those 100k points would save me from spending $4,400 in real dollars today. How long would it take for you to turn your $1,250 investment into $4,000+?

Yea, I may have to spend money for other expenses, like travel and food (the hotel is all inclusive so more savings there, yay!). But I would argue that I've saved so much on the hotel that I'm willing to spend money on those items, and have those experiences with my family.
