32GB (2 x 16GB) OLOy Blade, DDR4 3200, Desktop Memory for $134 after promo code EMCEXEU34

Specs:
  • DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600)
  • Timing 16-18-18-36
  • CAS Latency 16
  • Voltage 1.35V
Note: While the reviews for this model of Oloy RAM on Newegg are limited but very good (this particular model only came out recently), Tom's Hardware [tomshardware.com] in discussing the general quality of OlOy RAM concluded that:
Quote :
So, should you feel comfortable buying OLOy RAM? For the most part, the answer is a resounding yes, because the company uses industry-standard ICs, which are the same as those found in many of its better-known competitors. In our tests, OLOy RAM was at least as fast as its direct competitors so performance should not be a problem.
Rated 5 out of 5 on Newegg

Note: I earlier today posted a sale for 16 GB of OLOy DDR4 3600 for $79.99, click here

I'm so out-dated, I have not built a desktop for a while. I have an AMD Ryzen 7 3700x, Do I need ram that supports JEDEC? Does this one have it?

Oloy isn't a well recognized brand, which is why I left a link to the article in Tom's Hardware, and I also mentioned the rating from customer reviews. It should be fine.

This is basic desktop DDR4 3200 memory. All desktop DDR4 3200 memory supports whatever standards the JEDEC committee lays down.

If you already have a motherboard, just check how many memory slots are available on your motherboard. Some motherboards only have two memory slots, so if you only have two slots and already have memory, you have to decide if you want to add this memory, or maybe just use whatever memory you already own.

No lights. This doesn't have RGB.

I'd buy either these or the 16gb deal if I was building a PC, depending on the use case.

I bought this instead. 32gb is over kill. Plus, I preferred the well known brand name.

You seem like the person to ask. I was just looking through crucial website at this ram. Why pick 2666 vs 3200? Can the Dell utilize 3200? And is there any reason to not just buy 2*32GB cards, instead of 4*16GB, of that crucial RAM?

EDIT: I know you say 32 is overkill, but I'll be having a ton of chrome tabs open over 4 virtual desktops. My 8GB laptop dies with a quarter of that open, so I figure throwing 4x that at it would help?

Look at Table 5 in the manual, see https://dl.dell.com/topicspdf/xps..._en-us.pdf You've got 4 memory slots, each slot is capable of taking 32 GB of 3200 MHZ RAM. That's right it's 3200 MHZ that's run at either 2666 MHz/2933 MHz because of the limitations of the Intel processor.

I see, so it can't even hit 3200.

Ok, well I'll probably just order 2x32 GB of the appropriate crucial memory. If there's no downside vs 4x16.

Because 24gb is more than enough to handle 30 browser's tabs and a few apps like word, excel, Photoshop...etc. Even though if we add 3200, it will take the lowest speed (2666). Save the $$$ and upgrade the CPU cooler. You'll be more happy with this route. it's what we need vs what we want 🙂
