Pay with your Chase Southwest Credit Card to get the 50x points per $
Giftcards qualify. Buy a $100 gift card, get 5000 points (worth ~$50, maybe more). I'm in.
Good catch. But any risk of the transaction date falling outside the window (Friday)?

Think I'll just buy a flight... can always cancel and spend over the year

I guess this is a safe purchase.

It's amazing how ignorant people can be with the companies they do business with. If only they knew there was a team of over 40 people at SW alone that manage pricing they'd probably freak out. American, Delta and United have even more.

It's not as simple as saying I want to go from JFK to LAX and there is just a price sitting there.

They didn't extend it for 2019. There was no Covid in 2019. They extended 2020 into 2021.

You didn't take advantage of the extension, and still aren't flying. What exactly would you have them do exactly?

You earned CP for a year. You got a bonus for 10 months that you didn't use . You have wasted another 6 months. Why do they need to extend it again? Because you decided not to fly?

I'm really not understanding your argument.
Wrong. Those that earned in 2019 to have it for 2019 and 2020 had it extended twice. So they had an extra year. Someone who earned in 2020 didn't get an extension even while travel was down in early 2021 with places just now becoming fully open. For example, I travel to ski and skipped this past season. An extension into early 2022 would have gotten me at least more that one or two uses. Just because you had no issue traveling during covid, doesn't make you the norm.

You missed the point. Travel was only down if you decided not to fly. That's not their problem. I flew plenty. I didn't get any "free" year because I earned my CP for this year.
.
You're complaining you didn't get enough free stuff that you didn't use anyways. The flights were there. The flights are there now. Saying you can't fly enough is just false.

Point is why give 2019 people 2 full years and no extension for those that earned in 2020. And no the flights weren't all there. Many routes were cut last year and just now being back. SWA even agrees with me by arguing that they lowered the reqt to 100k. I along with many others just happen to think that they should extend also.

And I think you're being selfish. Why should they give you a CP for 2022? You earned a CP for 2021. You can use it in 2021. But you decided not to.

You say you have fewer routes. So? Those routes are cheaper. No one promised you a set of flights that fit your schedule.

You admit they already gave you 20% of a CP for next year. Therefore, they should give you a full one? Uh, okay.

The goal of a companion pass is to make you fly. It's apparently not working in your case. So why give you ANOTHER year?

I'm on my 15th CP trip this year... to Cabo on Wednesday. I was in Bozeman last weekend. Round trip flights were selling for $130 up until the last minute.

So you can claim you have somehow not gotten the benefits you think you deserve. But the truth is... you just chose not to take advantage of them.

Rather than wasting time here complaining. I suggest you go buy a ticket and use your CP.

You're the one missing the point. They gave 2019 people an extra year. Wouldn't kill them to give a few more months for the 2020 people. I never said a whole year. What made the 2019 much different from the 2020 earners. You're obviously a SWA apologist so there's no arguing with you.

I'm just telling you it's not gonna happen. So you can whine about it if you want. Or fly.

You want to ask them to extend your 2020 CP for a few months because it won't kill them. Go for it. Just don't hold your breath. How many months did it want exactly? Maybe they'll set up a special plan just for you. Maybe not.

I'm just wise enough to take advantage of my benefits and not waste my time wishing for things that aren't gonna happen. I guess it sounds harsh, but seriously... you have no excuse not to be using your CP. 2021 is NOT the same as 2020. Asking them to give you more free stuff is like me asking them to give me a free 2022. After all, I didn't need to earn 2021, right? They owe me more free stuff. At some point, you have to realize it's no longer logical.

Sitting around saying you didn't get "a fair opportunity" is just silly. You did. You are. Go fly already.

Under your attitude, you wouldn't have extended the 2019 earners. But since they did, it doesn't make much sense not to give some extension to the 2020 earners. Heck the 2019 people had whatever time in 2019, Jan and Feb 2020, and all of 2021. But you don't see the comparison so I'm not gonna argue anymore with you.

Not quite. As I said, 2020 was not the same as 2021.

2020 was a surprise, with many flights restricted and destinations impacted.

2021 was not a surprise. Almost everything is open and flights full.

So no one who earned their CP last year didn't know what they were getting. Plus they got a 25k point credit to get there.

Yes, you can argue everyone needs a free year of CP because they extended it for some people. By your logic, I should get a free year to use the first year I don't earn one. Maybe in 2025 or 2030, if I keep earning them, right? If not, someone else got more free stuff than me.

And people on welfare get free money, so you should too. I get your logic... no handouts unless everyone gets it, regardless of need or situation.

Unfortunately, that's not how life works.

Of course this isn't my choice. It's SWA. So discussing it here is moot.

But my point is...I've been flying the whole time. The planes were empty. They aren't now. There's no reason whatsoever to give someone an extension. They are a business and make decisions accordingly.

So stop complaining and start flying.

Already received my bonus points for the gift card purchase!
5041.76 points = 41.76 on SWA purchase + 4800 bonus on SWA purchase + 200 for 2x Pts on SWA purchase. Assuming the weird 41.76 pts is because I also received a $63.80 credit from my $75 Travel Credit / yr. (Already received $11.20 in credit earlier this year when I went to Vegas on points.)

Where do you see the bonus points?
I purchased the $100 GC on 6/10 and it has posted to my credit card statement but not seeing bonus points anywhere. TIA
