YMMV. Found the Google Nest Thermostat E in Aurora store in Seattle, WA. $19 on the end caps. Does not show up on Brickseek but the code does reverse back to the internet #.

That's why "regulars" know to NEVER do that.

Can you use these as temperature sensors for the Gen 3 Nest? I already have one set up to control my system, but I wouldn't mind having a thermostat in my living room and one in my basement so I can base my temp off of those rooms.

i got this model a while ago from Comed for free (had to pay $17 in taxes) and i tried to install it last night. Unfortunately it doesnt work without C wire on my system, i ordered power extender so hopefully in few days i will try to put it in again,
Dang, I still have one sitting in my garage also form ComEd. Went with the lower Nest as I thought it worked without a c wire.

I gotta finally get around to installing to see it it'll run without a c.
Luckily there is a power outlet right below my thermostat, so If I have to go power extender should not be too much of a hassle if I have to go that route.

What extender did you order?

I had installed one of these Nest thermostats after having a new furnace and central air unit installed. Worked great for a while then started short cycling my furnace. I removed and replaced with a regular Honeywell thermostat I bought for under $30. Have not had a problem since.

Its not regular power extender that you need, its specific one for Nest thermostats that google just come up with:
https://store.google.com/product/...r?hl=en-US
You connect it to your furnace control board and then 4 wires coming to the thermostat should work (its adding power from the C terminal)

HVAC guys really hate these things, yet they recommend Ecobee. Why?

One major reason is that will run without a C wire which sounds great to home owners. What it actually means is that the Nest will leech power from systems that are not intended to provide the amount of power it siphons off. Some equipment will fail under the additional stress. Home owners then blame the equipment because the Nest still turns on from the battery.

There are 4 at a store 30 miles from me on back roads. I don't currently have a sports car so not worth it.

I have had a NEST thermostat on my wall for 6 years now, not the E series, but the regular one. I dont have a c wire and its been doing just fine. no issues, when it runs ac/heat it charges it, nest told me it shouldn't ever go bad. but if it does, I will prob just buy a new one. lol I love it though.

Is Google cancelling these or are they trying to sucker people into buying expired Nest Protects? I ask this as a Nest owner. The Nest Secure cancelling was not reassuring.
