My credit rating has been well into the 800's for years and I pay every credit card balance off every single month, yet I get rejected (and I already have a Citi DoubleCash Mastercard that I've been using for years.) My live-in fiancee just got a pre-selected mailing from Citi for this same exact card today and the only reason she has any credit card usage at all is because I added her to most of my credit cards as an authorized user. What kind of crap is this?

Citi is really strict with recent inquiries/account openings, I believe the rule is 4 or more within the last 6 months leads to a denial (please correct me if I'm wrong slickdealers). I got denied and am now letting my recent accounts age to reapply for this account.
Reading this: Earn 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spend category each billing cycle, up to the first $500 spent, 1% cash back thereafter.
What exactly does 'up to the first $500 mean'? Consider the following scenario
Scenario A:
Day 1: $200 on groceries
Day 2: $350 on restaurant
Day 31: $300 on groceries
- will I be getting $25 ($200 +$300 on groceries)
OR
- will I be getting $7.50 since day1+day2 are greater than $500 in total and the 5% is applied on the top spend meaning $300, not $350 since only first $500 are covered by 5% possibility?

$25 if day 1 and day 31 are on the same monthly statement, which seems unlikely.
I applied in-branch for 30K points and got instantly approved for $7200 CL. I thought I would have been rejected since I've already had two Citi cards with $38.6K CL.
This should be in OP. Earn 5% cash back on purchases in your top eligible spend category each

If you have good credit, it seems like a no-brainer. Remember, getting cash back on money you spend is even better than interest on savings as you don't have to pay tax on it.
My current cheap-ass config:
-USAA Credit Card : 5% back on gas
-US Bank Credit Card (choose 2 categories at 5%) : 5% back on TV, internet, streaming services; 5% back on cell phone providers
-City National Bank Credit Card (choose 2 categories at 5%) : 5% back on Utilities; 5% back on gym and fitness stores (Academy, Dick's Sporting Goods)
-Discover It Credit Card : 5% back on rotating categories
-Chase Freedom Credit Card : 5% back on rotating categories
-AMEX Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card : 3% back on groceries
-Citi Double Cash Credit Card : 2% back on everything
-My new Citi Custom Credit Card : Probably will do the 5% back at restaurants, or possibly Home Improvement stores.
Take note that my credit cards are all set to autopay so I never pay interest, they are all 0 annual fee cards, and that the US Bank and City National Bank cards sit in a safe with my other important docs since Internet/TV/Streaming, Cell Phone, Utilities, and Gym are enrolled in online autopay. Also, I use my Discover It for the full $1,500 on Amazon Gift Cards during that quarter, redeem on my Amazon account, and burn through it over the year since my Amazon Credit card seem to keep changing their terms from 3% to 5% and now back to 3%.
If you are willing to commit specific cards for specific purchases, it really is easy to get free savings. Also, most have rewards upon signing up (Citi Custom Cash gives $200 back on spending $750 in 3 months), improve your credit score if you only spend what you have, and usually give some protection through "charge-back" and maybe even built-in warranties.
Remember, if you were to only spend $20,000 a year on bills and purchases using 5% back credit cards, you would get $1,000 (5%) back. What are savings accounts and CD interest rates at today....1%, maybe up to 2% if you find a no frills online bank or use Kasasa Cash Checking accounts possibly? Capital gains comes out on top of that.
Nice post. Repped. I do SOME of the above, but not all. BTW, I used to use Discover It for Amazon, but my Amazon card stays at 5% cb so I will just use that. QUESTION: Could you do the same for Walmart GCs during that quarter (buy $1500 to get max back and use over time?). TIA
I do something similar but with fewer credit cards.

-AMEX Blue Cash Everyday Credit Card : 3% back on groceries Yes for their offers not specifically for their groceries.
-Citi Double Cash Credit Card : 2% back on everything Yes
-Bank of America Cash Rewards 3% online via Paypal

I bought $500 of Sam's Club gift cards in Q1 when Chase had the 5% for warehouse clubs. I am still using them now at Walmart. I also bought 2x $500 Amex gift cards at Sam's Club.
same here i have the following CC for maximize the 5% CB:
Discover CC- 5% rotating
Chase Flex CC - 5% rotating
Amazon CC - 5%
Target CC- 5% CB
Citi CC - 2% CB
I have the exact same setup except 6% at grocery stores with the Amex blue cash preferred. I usually keep my restaurant spending under $500 a month and have been thinking about getting this card for that. It does have the additional benefit that if you need to make a purchase in a different category one month you can use it there too. Still haven't pulled the trigger yet. I think there was a better bonus at one point?

Yeah, I can't remember the break point but I believe it was around $3200. If you spend more than that in a year at the grocery store it is better to get the one with the fee. I buy gift cards for Amazon etc at the grocery store so am always over the break point
