I'm on the big island right now. Kona side is warm (upper 80's most days) and muggy, but there are a lot of great beaches. Sun is intense here as well, definitely need lots of sunscreen.

Hilo side is a bit cooler (lower 80's), and the beaches are mostly rocky, but they are worth visiting.

Rental cars are scarce there right now due to fleet sell offs that happened last year.
Prices can be ludicrous, people were resorting to renting uhauls just to get around.

Book your rental car before pulling the trigger on the flight.

All booked up. I booked an Airbnb since I was traveling with a family of 5. We loved Hapuna and Kua beaches. We are on the Hilo side now, heading to Volcano National Park tomorrow. Will let you know any other recommendations
Are there any live volcano? Pls share your experience

I was reading some comments regarding the rental car shortage and WOW! Residents sure hate tourists even though they rely on tourism dollars. People should just boycott Hawaii and see how long they can survive without tourists. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Cancun is a much better deal. The people there welcome your business and are super friendly. Treat them with respect and they go above and beyond for you.

If you're looking for a place to stay on the Big Island, try Hilton's promotions. I'm taking a shot at the Waikoloa Village promo — something like $900 for 5 nights, which includes free car rental, 5k Hilton points, and $200 future Hilton credit. You have to sit through an hour timeshare presentation, but I've done a similar thing before with Hyatt (I think) and it was worth it.
Waikoloa village is great! I loved staying there. They have a boat and a train to take you around the resort grounds and a very nice bar. I highly recommend renting a jeep on the big island so you can reach Waipio valley and one or two beaches that are inaccessible by low clearance vehicles

wow that is a dumbass comment. I live in Kona. And you're probably too uneducated to understand that the residents are NOT setting the rental car prices. That is done by the good ol' American companies like Hertz, Dollar etc... It's called supply and demand. The locals here want tourists back. I've seen countless small businesses close due to the pandemic. get educated.

To be exact, 2 years ago. Prices have not increased since then. If you fly regularly, you would know this. Price of gas is cheaper than 2 years ago. Meat/milk is also the same, those havent changed much. YOu should get out more.
Gas prices were 40 cents cheaper 2 years ago on this date and $1.40 Cheaper a gallon than a year ago today on average.

beef prices have roughly doubled in the past 2 years:

No it's 84 year round +/- with low humidity, pleasant year round. Planning on moving there for my 5-yr plan. 80 in FL, forget it, humidity 90% feels like hell
Yeah, I never understood the lure of Florida. Way too humid.

We also visited the black sand beach (Punaluʻu) that is 30 minutes from Volcano National Park. It's a beautiful beach with Alot of sea turtles, definitely worth a trip to see.

One note, I recommend bringing water shoes to most of the beaches, most of them are a mix of sand and rocks.

Yup, expect to drop $2-3k for the rental car if you stay more than a week.
Well then it isnt worth going. Last time I went tickets cost me $1500 and rental car cost me $240. Cheaper to wait till ticket prices go back up unless you book somewhere with a shuttle and hardly go anywhere.

Aren't they requiring you to quarantine for 10 days AFTER arrival? You may want to check the CDC's website
