long time user of c by ge...these are now cync as ge sold this division off awhile ago- and these are the ultra old model of these bulbs- they'll connect just fine to google home, but alexa/amazon will not connect to these models unless you use ge's smatch switch to connect them (they're bluetooth, google home is and alexa is not).

just an fyi on that, it's a little subtle in the listing and newer ones ARE directly alexa compatible.

It requires a purchase of a hub to work.
I'd be really surprised if these require a hub. I'm guessing that the GE App just links to the Google Home and Alexa App just like most other smart bulbs. Anyway, it's nice to have a mix of smart plugs and bulbs but I kinda like to keep everything in the same family so I went with TP Link when Wally cleared them out.

As the owner of a ton of smart devices I'm going to offer these perspectives:

1. Smart bulbs are generally bad. Smart switches are much better.
2. Smart bulbs require the switch be turned on. Do you think everyone in your home or who visits your home will never turn the switch off? You're definitely wrong (though maybe you don't care when your bulb won't run its automation or respond to a voice command and you need to go flip the switch again)
3. wifi in any smart devices (like these bulbs) is horrible. Get a hub and run z-wave (or, if you must, zigbee).
4. YMMV - there will surely be people who disagree, maybe pretty strongly, with statements like my strongly worded and strongly held opinion that "wifi + smart == terrible"

Price seem comparable with non-smart light bulbs.
Do they light up by default if never connected to network?

The reset procedure for these is a joke, and they break with Google home updates constantly. They just rebranded (probably to get away from their reputation). For this price, it's worth it, but if you're looking to set up a house opt for better bulbs.

Would like verification, can the bulb be controlled while in the room through the app/wifi. I realize if outside the home one would need a hub however can someone comfirm there is ability to change colors etc while nearby.

I have this from a long time ago. They connect to your phone using Bluetooth

Soft light is different from daylight bulb right. I am not looking for warm yellow light bulb. Should I buy this if I want daylight bulb?

Are these bulbs considered WiFi bulbs? They are only controllable via Bluetooth with the app unless you buy the hub and pair the bulbs to that.

Yes they are very different. These bulbs are a very warm 2700K temperature. Usually a daylight bulb is a much cooler 5000K temperature. Don't buy this one if you want a daylight bulb. If you don't mind hooking up bulbs to your phone once and setting the white temperature you want, the full color bulbs have an adjustable white light range from vey warm to very cool. The two pack is already sold out on that, but it looks like the single bulb full color is still a decent deal.

I bought 2 packs of these on the last lighting deal. I already have several of them and find they are not as reliable as the switches that I have. I never had a problem connecting them with my Google Home. This time was different, I could not get them to connect . Customer service was great and we tried everything. I returned them today.

This might be nitpicking but these run off bluetooth.

CbyGE lost my business when their
original Bluetooth bulbs were garbage and they never resolved those issues. App is terrible as well.
