Very good price for this wheel, I wish I had waited a bit right now.

The answer changes based on what your budget is. You can spend thousands on a wheel setup if you wanted to.
I got this wheel several months ago and it's a blast. You absolutely need the following.

Open wheeler racing seat: $399
6 speed shifter add on: $59
Upgraded shifter knob: $10
Upgraded gas and brake springs for increased resistance: $35

What would you recommend for someone wanting to jump into racing games for a lower-mid tier system? The setup you listed or is that for a more serious racer? I enjoyed playing arcade racing games as a kid and now have some money as an adult. Not sure if I'm completely into the full sim, but the force feedback, 3 pedals, and stick shift seem like a safer way to have fun than in a real car. I really enjoyed Daytona USA at the arcades when younger.. the one when the full cabin moves and rumbles. and the steering wheel fights you back hard on the corners.

I had project gotham racing (1 and 2) for the original Xbox with some basic steering wheel (dont remember now maybe madcatz? maybe logitech) but it was non forcefeedback). but that was super "arcade" with just slightly better racing than the controller. I assume these all are light years away from that.

I'm platform agnostic, so dont have a platform or software either yet. Is there an advantage in games/price for either platform? PC,Xbox, PS? Any games to recommend for the moderate tinkerer?
If you could wait and want something that slots in the mid tier then go for Fanatec CSL DD, the whole setup at minimum will be around $600. It is their newest entry level direct drive base, vastly superior and upgradable than the belt driven G920/G29 (Nothing against them, for us beginners they are perfectly adequate, but chances are if you get into sim racing then soon you'll long for greater performance). I am in the same boat and wish to buy my first racing sim setup, and I have decided to wait for the CSL DD setup to be available later this year (expected ship date is Q3 of this year)

Hello All,

Need serious advice,

I cant drive. I have spent money on many lessons and in my city that is expensive. I dont have access to a car to practice so naturally in between lessons I start to forget and my anxiety and doubt creeps in. I have considered getting a wheel and simulator games so this deal reminded me of that however I am leery of sinking money into it instead of just for more lessons. I saw a few programs mentioned, like City Driver and Asetto something or other. I need help with following the street signs and my turns parking as well.

Any input is appreciated.

Definitely not the same. Better brake pedal, haptic feedback. Dont overpay for the old one.
No the G29 and the G920 are effectively the same wheel aside from the Playstation/Xbox compatibility and extra buttons on the G29. You're thinking of the G923, which is Logitech's newest wheel, it has updated electronics for better feedback and a progressive spring in the brake pedal. Other than that though, they are basically the same. Logitech hasn't really updated the motors or drive system (still using gears) in a long time.

so the g29 is an older version than this, even though it is for playstation and pc? i was able to get it for $180 off woot deal. Provantage currently has it at that price as well, which is still $30 less than this. Is it worth returning my wheel g29 (unopened) back to woot for this?
No, this is the exact same wheel except it has fewer buttons than the G29. The only reason to return your G29 is if you have to have Xbox compatibility.

How does the steering wheel compares to normal real car? Can anyone comments on whether the rotation and steering would match a normal road car? I am trying to see if i can create a learner driver simulator of some sort. Thanks
The feel will totally depend on what application/game you are going to use, that said you can look online to confirm compatibility and the wheel (and pedals!) can be very customized to determine sensitivity, rotation lock, progressive steering/pedals, etc. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was able to adjust.

He mentioned Daytona USA, so not sure he will get into sim racing. 😀

Do you have any family or close friends? I started off learning how to drive and helped relatives of mine how to drive by going into a massive parking lot and practicing there. You can use parking spaces to practice your handling of the wheel. Reverse parking. Doing visual parallel parking by using the lines as a theoretical scenario (pretending a line is a curb). Get into a habit of using your turn signal when parking. Turn on your emergency lights when doing a parallel parking (that's what people do in the city to let the person know behind them that they are going to parallel park). Do that at the most basic level. Then once you graduate from that then start going on very lightly traffic roads just to get a sense of driving without all the stress. City driving is absolutely terrible. High stress all the time. People are absolutely nuts. I wouldn't start driving on inner city roads first. Go out to the suburbs first if you can.

Does anyone use this or a similar model and not have it bolted to a desk or other platform?

I've used mine for 1.5 years and it's rock solid. Also have the shifter (essential, IMO) and a steel racing cage/setup.

Mostly play wreckfest and Dirt Rally 2.0 (full manual on both) so it gets pretty beat up. So much fun though.

I'm in my 40's and DNGAF. It's fun.

Computer simulators will be worthless for getting comfortable on the road. Drive with people and learn what they're doing. Don't start by driving in the city, that's really hard. Maybe try some lessons whenever you're somewhere more rural where it will be cheaper too. Get used to driving outside the city before venturing into the maw.

Is this good for teaching kids to drive a car, or is it overkill? Any recommendation for the driving school simulation software? Thanks!

I would recomend this or the G29. They are almost identical.
G920 = xbox/PC
G29 = PlayStation and PC
This is the best price I've seen in a since last black Friday, which was about the same price.
You can add a shifter for $60 retail.
