The answer changes based on what your budget is. You can spend thousands on a wheel setup if you wanted to.
I got this wheel several months ago and it's a blast. You absolutely need the following.

Open wheeler racing seat: $399
6 speed shifter add on: $59
Upgraded shifter knob: $10
Upgraded gas and brake springs for increased resistance: $35

Some of you overvalue the equipment you play on. Sure, get the best you can afford but don't expect the wheel to be what separates you from the field. I still race with a 14 year old logitech driving force gt on iracing and have run with and beaten professional drivers using very expensive equipment. I've also struggled to run mid pack at times. None of that is the wheel, it's the ability. My advice, buy this wheel or the Driving Force GT if you can find one on ebay for cheap, go play, run a ton of laps and once you're running consistently and can justify an expensive wheel set up like some guys are recommending, then go for it if you really think you need it. But, you probably don't..

If you've settled on getting this wheel and If you're playing on PC only or on PC + Playstation, get the G29 instead for around the same price, it is the same wheel but has more buttons.
Isn't G29 for PS only? I don't see PC support https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Z0UWWYC/

OK, I saw it on the third picture. Grabbed G29 as a present for kid. It's the moving up season!

If you could wait and want something that slots in the mid tier then go for Fanatec CSL DD, the whole setup at minimum will be around $600. It is their newest entry level direct drive base, vastly superior and upgradable than the belt driven G920/G29 (Nothing against them, for us beginners they are perfectly adequate, but chances are if you get into sim racing then soon you'll long for greater performance). I am in the same boat and wish to buy my first racing sim setup, and I have decided to wait for the CSL DD setup to be available later this year (expected ship date is Q3 of this year)
Thanks that does look fancy. Maybe I am a true beginner and should start with the total beginner package then just upgrade later if I think I like it.

When you say "the whole setup" is $600 is that just the "base" + wheel + pedals + shifter right? If I wanted fancy platform I'd still need to buy the racing seat? (do I even need a racing seat?)

What is your entire setup now? How long have you been in it for. you wish you would have just gone with the better one up front? or is it better to start at lower level first?
(edit) Oh I misread your post. Do you have anything right now? Just using standard xbox/ps controller? or you have a super entry level wheel?

Haha. That's fair. It's just my most memorable experience with a racing game and wheel and it happened to be from the late 90s/2000's.

I dont think I'd be all out in a full out sim racing. Just something that could replicate driving my own car (and cooler cars) virtually without destroying my car, me, etc. I have a 6 speed TSX. so it's not fancy but I i enjoy driving it over other automatics. I haven't driven anything else "fancier" besides an Integra, and auto M3 e36.

Maybe the analogy is like, I think it'd be fun to try boxing, but I dont want to get beat up. So what can I do with a video game. (maybe? haha)

I used to own the G29, bought at $300 with a clutch, with a nice $300 very solid racing wheel stand, and I will say this. If you are interested in going down the racing wheel road, first buy the wheel and maybe a decent $100 wheel stand. Play for a few days or weeks. See if the novelty wears off. See what games support your wheel. See how much time you spend using it. If you are still all in, return the stand and go for something more durable or comfortable. For me, it wore off. Having spent $600, I would have to play only racing games in my huge backlog during the only time I have after work for me to get my values worth, or so that's how I think. That is the one thing I didn't consider, that I would have to let racing games take over my game time or else I see it as a $600 item sitting in a corner. I know games have driving aspects, but it was too much of a hassle for me and also I don't like using a wheel in third person for those games that don't support first person views. Ultimately, I spent more time trying to customize the force feedback perfectly in the rabbit hole that is Project Cars 1 settings and also the fact that not all games supported such a known wheel brand like Logitech in games like The Crew, that I just had a bad taste in my mouth with the thought of having spent so much on what I saw at the time was just another way to control games. Your experience may vary, so please that's why I say start with a wheel first and get your feet wet. You don't need to perform a Christmas shopping list in June and get a racing seat outright. Also I will say that my brother eventually upgraded to a Thrustmaster after giving him my wheel stand and when I tried it out, I enjoyed it being belt driven as opposed to the loud ass clanky gear driven G29. TM was more though at the time so there is that. Finally, I will say that VR, with a complete setup, will be quite the amazing experience.

Sorry meant to reply to you, see my post above. The stand is one of the main bones in setup but also something you can put off for now to see where your likeness in this hobby stands

Great thanks! Perfect insight. I can see how it's an expensive hobby and I shouldnt dive too deep on my first try.

I've been doing a lot of reading and youtubing the past few days after this deal. The one that keeps coming up is Logitech's gears vs belt like with Thrustmaster. Would you think it's worth spending a bit more to get Thrustmaster? Or is this deal just too good a deal to pass up? I assume BF will have deals, I could probably wait till then too.

Do you have a recommended "starter" $100 stand? which stand did you get? I might just clamp it to my desk and see how that goes.

Another thing I need to look into is games. Are the games fun enough single player or online play is where it's at? And are the online games "included" in the price or subscription based? I read iracing is the "final level" so I probably wont get there at anytime. I dont want to shell out an additional $10/mo+ .

Is that a reason why you stopped playing or it was just not enough free time in the week?
My stand was the Next Level Racing stand. I got it because it had the stickshift holder lower than the wheel. I tried to stay away from wheel stands that had the shifter next to the wheel because IMO it looks ridiculous as the shifter in cars is mostly at your side.

So the gear vs belt driven ordeal also can come down to personal preference. For me, gear driven was not satisfying and after I tried my brothers Thrustmaster, it was a huge difference. With belt driven, you will feel the constant tug of the forces whereas on my G29, they would sometimes "let go" or the force feedback would clip, which usually came with loud audible clicks. It was generally annoying using the G29 especially over kerbs where if the force feedback was set high, it would click and clatter. Think of belt driven as more smooth while gear driven as more blocky.

As for stands, I honestly would go with any cheap one and look at the reviews. Make sure to check for stability. You don't want the force feedback of your wheel causing wobble.

For online, I'm sorry I cannot provide feedback because I mostly did AI/singleplayer racing. I know sometimes multiplayer can get toxic with people ramming you to get ahead, but I'm sure that varies too.

If you do get this wheel, do all the aforementioned I noted, but also check how you like the feel of the force-feedback. Get a cheap stand with good reviews but try to stay under $100. If you don't mind the gear driven feedback, I'd just turn a blind eye to belt driven and try not to have buyers remorse. I'm sure BF will also have deals on wheels.

I'd also like to apologize to any hardcore sim racers in here. My intention is not to dissuade people from the experience but I hope that my tribulations lends credit to some positive criticism and discussions we can have before people plunk down mad money. After all, when you have a good setup, racing games become infinitely more fun.

Got this price matched by BB so I can use my rewards dollars. Interestingly they made the final price 217.59 AFTER tax. Not complaining Smilie

Im currently using a Logitech driving force pro that I got from goodwill. I love it, its alot if fun and I've seen my times get better. (With Alot of practice) However it is SUPER loud and I want to learn to drive stick shift. Also because of the software I have to use an older build of windows 10. Is the g920/29 worth the upgrade?

Sorry I missed your question. It's belt driven and not gear driven so it is smoother/less notch and quieter. The Logitech is still fun and people like them. I needed something quiet.
