OK, I saw it on the third picture. Grabbed G29 as a present for kid. It's the moving up season!
When you say "the whole setup" is $600 is that just the "base" + wheel + pedals + shifter right? If I wanted fancy platform I'd still need to buy the racing seat? (do I even need a racing seat?)
What is your entire setup now? How long have you been in it for. you wish you would have just gone with the better one up front? or is it better to start at lower level first?
(edit) Oh I misread your post. Do you have anything right now? Just using standard xbox/ps controller? or you have a super entry level wheel?
I dont think I'd be all out in a full out sim racing. Just something that could replicate driving my own car (and cooler cars) virtually without destroying my car, me, etc. I have a 6 speed TSX. so it's not fancy but I i enjoy driving it over other automatics. I haven't driven anything else "fancier" besides an Integra, and auto M3 e36.
Maybe the analogy is like, I think it'd be fun to try boxing, but I dont want to get beat up. So what can I do with a video game. (maybe? haha)

Sorry meant to reply to you, see my post above. The stand is one of the main bones in setup but also something you can put off for now to see where your likeness in this hobby stands

Great thanks! Perfect insight. I can see how it's an expensive hobby and I shouldnt dive too deep on my first try.
I've been doing a lot of reading and youtubing the past few days after this deal. The one that keeps coming up is Logitech's gears vs belt like with Thrustmaster. Would you think it's worth spending a bit more to get Thrustmaster? Or is this deal just too good a deal to pass up? I assume BF will have deals, I could probably wait till then too.
Do you have a recommended "starter" $100 stand? which stand did you get? I might just clamp it to my desk and see how that goes.
Another thing I need to look into is games. Are the games fun enough single player or online play is where it's at? And are the online games "included" in the price or subscription based? I read iracing is the "final level" so I probably wont get there at anytime. I dont want to shell out an additional $10/mo+ .

Is that a reason why you stopped playing or it was just not enough free time in the week?
So the gear vs belt driven ordeal also can come down to personal preference. For me, gear driven was not satisfying and after I tried my brothers Thrustmaster, it was a huge difference. With belt driven, you will feel the constant tug of the forces whereas on my G29, they would sometimes "let go" or the force feedback would clip, which usually came with loud audible clicks. It was generally annoying using the G29 especially over kerbs where if the force feedback was set high, it would click and clatter. Think of belt driven as more smooth while gear driven as more blocky.
As for stands, I honestly would go with any cheap one and look at the reviews. Make sure to check for stability. You don't want the force feedback of your wheel causing wobble.
For online, I'm sorry I cannot provide feedback because I mostly did AI/singleplayer racing. I know sometimes multiplayer can get toxic with people ramming you to get ahead, but I'm sure that varies too.
If you do get this wheel, do all the aforementioned I noted, but also check how you like the feel of the force-feedback. Get a cheap stand with good reviews but try to stay under $100. If you don't mind the gear driven feedback, I'd just turn a blind eye to belt driven and try not to have buyers remorse. I'm sure BF will also have deals on wheels.
I'd also like to apologize to any hardcore sim racers in here. My intention is not to dissuade people from the experience but I hope that my tribulations lends credit to some positive criticism and discussions we can have before people plunk down mad money. After all, when you have a good setup, racing games become infinitely more fun.
Got this price matched by BB so I can use my rewards dollars. Interestingly they made the final price 217.59 AFTER tax. Not complaining
