What does "Ad supported" mean? Do random ads show up while using the kindle?

I'm also counting on a prime day deal. Presumably it'll be at least equivalent to this if not better, but really I'm just guessing.

This an early prime day deal or might there be an even better price?
Free returns. Order these now and if Prime Day deal is better, return them...

I have the non light one and really wish I had this version as it's hard to read without backlight. Anyone try reading books on an iPad? How's that work? I know the advantage here is the eye strain and battery

This is probably the same deal as Amazon Prime Day. How can I order this if I don't have my Alexa turned on and I can't do it….. for reasons? Lol

I was able to get one twilight blue via the Amazon app with Alexa but for some reason the Sage color didn't work and was just adding the black version.

i presume that they are just providing early access for prime/alexa users and you'll be able to get it monday (if not sooner) without the extra hoops.

The should add warm lighting to these. Oasis had it but it's far too overpriced for a once in awhile reader.
The main reason for using a e-reader for me is to avoid the backlight/frontlight from shining directly into my eyes. I use my Kindle like a physical book with my desk lamp on in a well-lit room. Indirect lighting is way more easier on the eyes.

Would anyone recommend this version over the paperwhite 2 (2013)? Mine works fine but I was wondering if those who have it think it's worth the upgrade

Looks like you don't get the 3 months free kindle unlimited. Think this will be part of prime day?
No, most likely KU subs will be discounted.

Will trade in discount work?
Just ordered blue via phone, trade in discount did not automatically apply. Haven't chatted in yet but should be easy enough to have them add it. Haven't completed order yet.

It's not 'backlight' for that exact reason. Kindle Paperwhite's are "front-lit." They have LED in the bezels that refract the light on layer of glass just above the e-ink screen (think a fiber-optic cable, but flattened out into a think sheet of glass). There are patterns on that glass that direct the light downward onto the e-ink screen across the entire width of it, giving a fairly even lighting effect that reflects back up, the same as your indirect lighting does (except probably more evenly). It also doesn't contain much blue light, which is the type that causes eye strain in the first place.

So, do whatever you like, but eye-strain on a kindle paperwhite simply isn't a thing. It's really well designed in that regard.
