Usually don't see extensions for this cheap. I grabbed 4 at this price.

With that big of a project I would DEFINITELY go with Sowilo Designs for the Hue light strips over actual Hue brand strips. Their strips are better, can be extended much longer so you don't have to keep installing a bunch of receivers, and work exactly to Hue specs. They even use a Hue receiver but add amplification.

That's what I did in my house for all under cabinet, shelf, and toe kick lighting. They make the actual Hue strips look really cheap, dim, and too far between LEDs by comparison.

Reach out to them for bulk pricing if you are buying a bunch and you'll get better pricing. https://sowilodesign.com/

Bonus, Mike is super helpful and will help design what you need. They even solder.
Sowilo uses an authentic Hue controller, so it's exactly the same integration. They just designed a higher quality strip with higher guage wire, higher CRI, more LED density per meter, and then attach an authentic Hue controller along with a 5 channel high frequency amplifier that allows you to go longer without losing brightness.

The Philips Hue strip light controller only puts out 20 watts, so when you extend it you lose lumens per LED. Not so with Sowilo's setup. They essentially took all of the good parts of Hue integration and made it work for more applications than an average Joe putting up one strip light.

Can I use it as just a regular light strip? Or I need a "main" strip? Want to add light under upper cabinet over a sink.

You need a base. It's the thing that goes between the power brick and the strip. It's what has the Bluetooth/hue bridge radio and light color controller

How many can you daisy-chain to one original strip?

FYI if you plan on extensions, each strip module has a max brightness output that is already reached on the standard unit before adding extensions such that every time you add an extension, the per-LED brightness decreases to spread along the new length. Something to think about when you trade max extension length vs another base + extensions.

How well does the controller work with other smart apps for device and color management? I use mine to integrate with SmartThings, IFTTT, and in combination with my nanoleaf lights. I also use the hue apps to sync with music and other various hue lights.

So while I like the hue for the color brightness and saturation it's also the most popular for smart home integrations and app compatibility.

So if the brightness output decreases by 10% per extension, if you connect 9 of them, the lights no longer work? laugh out loud

They actually use the hue controller itself, their approach amplifies the signal/power to extend over longer distances. I believe I've read the strips even show in the hue app due to the reuse of the controller

If they showed up under the hue app then they should be compatible with everything else I'm doing. Oh well, I'm committed to hue at this point. About $1500 for three coffered ceilings, one tow lighting, two cabinet uppers and two countertops.

I wonder if I should consider tow lighting in the kitchen cabinets or island...

Up to 8 extensions for a total of about 10 meters / 33 feet. (2m base +8 1m extensions)

You have links to the YouTube vids and pics of cool installations? I JUST bought my first house and don't even know where to begin but I know these are really popular and people seem to love them.
This is one I found, was planning on watching some more once I got closer to install in November.

Keep in mind you are working with 20 watts of power. The longer you go, the more dim your strip will be. If there's another non extended strip in the room, that strip will look brighter at the same brightness level and will not match.

You can't return what you bought? With the amount of lighting you are doing I would really try to sell what you have on Offer Up/FB Marketplace for whatever you can get and go with the Sowilo. What you are doing will require some serious hacking and running a bunch of high voltage everywhere for plugging in the controllers.

I was in your exact same position and just sold off my extra light strips. I actually came out even on them because I got such a good deal on them originally.
