Would be an instant buy for the z6 if they had a FTZ adapter bundle for $99 more like the new models.

You can get the z6 with FTZ, NEW for $1494
Vs, Refurbished z6 with FTZ for $1343.... $150 new.

The z5 with FTZ is $1100 NEW.... Dang

An excellent prosumer camera. The Z6 does lack a few features that keep it from being able to really be considered a pro body. Mainly the lack of a true vertical grip and the single card slot. The Z6II refines most of what the Z6 does right such as video and the image sensor, while correcting these wrongs.

Another thing to note: when the Z6 came out initially; there was no where near as many z lenses to actually take advantage of the new system. Now there is a good bit more though no third party support (I.e no sigma z mounts, etc) which sucks.

If you are an enthusiast or serious hobbyist the Z6 should meet all your needs (and probably then some except for fast sports/wildlife). If you are a pro or want to become one. I do recommend saving more for the Z6II for the reasons stated.

Thanks a lot for the detailed reply. I consider myself an amateur in photography and would like to replace my almost 10 years old Canon T4i.

I think the Z50 should meet all my requirements and it is much easier to carry for travel. Z50 would also allow me to upgrade to Z6II or whatever is newer in a few years while keeping the Z lens useful. So I bought the refurb Z50 with lens kit.

Sounds great! I personally recently upgraded to the Z5 from a d7500. I liked it but the smaller size, future-proof mount and full frame sensor for $1k total with the FTZ adapter. It doesn't have the video chops of the Z6 but I love it so far.

Z6 and Z7 both use XQD or (through a firmware update) CFExpress type B cards to store images. Please keep that in mind (as it will be an extra expense should you not have them).

Z5 with the FTZ adapter is a great choice for you to keep your D7500 lens.
I didn't invest too much on Canon lens for my T4i, so I am totally fine switching to Nikon Smilie

There is very little reason to spend $600 more for the Z6 II, or $900 compared to the refurb as it is. It allows two memory cards instead of one, has slightly more AF points, etc. The body is pretty much identical, it has the same touch screen, the same viewfinder, etc. I literally bought a Z6 today, though not from Adorama as I really need the FTZ adapter. If you don't own any previous Nikon glass then this should not be a factor to you.

Third-Party lenses for the Z system already exist, albeit not from Sigma, but frankly this should not be a factor. For one thing, there are highly functional adapters to use just about any lens on the Nikon Zs. I think the only one not yet covered is the new Canon mirrorless, but if you want EOS lenses, not a problem, Sony E-mount, not a problem, and the list goes on.

As to a vertical grip, if it had one, I would not be buying it.

I actually spoke with their help for that very reason, citing the small price difference, and pointed out that Beach Camera had a nicer package that included a CFexpress card to boot. They replied BC was not an authorized dealer. So I showed them a list of authorized dealers with BC on it, and they started hemming and hawing.

So I bought this from Beach Camera: https://www.beachcamera.com/colle...ker-bundle

Note that it is not a refurb but a full brand new camera.

I ended up buying the Z6 refurb and the Z5 with FTZ for $2,200... looking for dual cam setup and that was a nice combo to replace my D5300 and D750.

But thanks for the link. Super valuable.

How are refurbs from Adorama? I just got the z50 2lk new for about $150 more (it was $200 more but had some discounts applied to drop it another $50). Not sure if saving $150 for a refurb package is worth it.

I am. :-) I have used the Canon 1D series, and they are great technical beasts, but huge. They don't do anything special I really need. I have no issue turning my camera 90 degrees to take a portrait image, and frankly today's full-frame cameras are all incredible low-light image machines. I prefer a more compact package, and my prized combination has been a sharp 35mm f/1.8 with my D750, which will now be replaced by the Z6. That said, I won't deny I love my Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 when I need it.
