Smart tvs tend do have crappy processors and buffer during hd content. I cut the cable and watch everything through Apple TV. I use it for Plex movie server, share pics and videos with the family.

This is a good deal for those who prefer Apple products. I have this device and the Roku Ultra. I significantly prefer the Roku remote and otherwise, they're comparable. The Roku is currently on sale for $69 at Amazon.

Was the Previous Model in the thread title your first clue?

This is a good deal for the 2017 4K model. I am not a fan of the remote and have replaced mine with the new version but have to admit that the older remote worked just fine (except for no mute button which I really wanted).

It's just apples version of fire or roku. If you are an Apple guy. You may find extras But if you are happy with your built in smart tv. Don't bother

"if you are happy" is the key. I have a smart Sony TV with the built in apps and it is painfully slow compared to the Apple TV. Plus there is the privacy issue, I don't know what info Sony is phoning home.

Plus the Apple TV works as a hub for Homekit.

Very happy with the Apple TV.

Just a better experience, honestly. Better apps, more stable apps, faster navigation, easier input (like typing searches), AirPlay if you have iPhone/iPad, etc.

I'm sure it depends but I find smart TV apps buggy and frustrating to use. Apple TV feels like a truly premium user experience.

I find it annoying that Appletv does have an internet browser. This makes it very difficult if you want to take it with you vacation and connect to the resort wifi which requires acceptance of terms and conditions screen. Required at almost every resort i have ever gone to. There are some work arounds like calling the resort network administrator office and having them add the Appletv mac address to their system but that is annoying.
