It's not "older vs newer" this is the professional series not home artisan series. It works like a professional commercial baker/chef mixer. It's also more powerful than the artisan (the one you call the "older style"). if you mean their "classic" model, this has double the power and 1.5qt bigger bowl size. 1qt bigger than the artisan and 250w more powerful (325vs575). if you are making thick doughs and not just mixing up a box of Betty crocker instant cake mix twice a year, the pro 600 series is way better in every way. https://www.kitchenaid.com/counte...chart.html

So, I have this exact model. I've been using it off and on for about 4 years now and it works great for almost everything. It'll make a thick dough with no problems. Pasta dough clumps right up, pizza dough is even easier. It'll shred cooked chicken or pork and will mash potatoes like nobody's business.

I've used the fruit/veggie peeler & corer for making apple pies, the pasta roller for homemade pastas of all sorts as long as they're flat, the citrus juicer for fresh orange juice, and the cheese grater.

The only thing that doesn't work great is the cheese grater/shredder. It's only for hard cheeses. Don't try to shred a bunch of a softer cheese like colby jack or havarti, it'll overheat the motor. Then the whole thing shuts down on safety until it cools enough.

So as long as you're not trying to shred a bunch of soft cheese, this should power through anything you throw at it.

I swore it had a longer warranty than 1 year, but I looked up the one I bought and its 1 year, but my credit card doubles the warranty fortunately. I know it isn't the same, but idk. my gf enjoys this one a lot. paid 199 for it

The artisan tilt back fits beneath std cabinet height ... These pro models need their own storage spot so be aware the tilt backs do have their advantages and huge one at that!

Anyone interested in this deal should check out this as an alternate. Powerful motor and preferred by many over KitchenAid since it is so much easier to add ingredients. It's also meant to be much better at kneading dough

According to Kitchenaid's website, this mixer is 17 inches tall and standard cabinet-counter distance is 18 inches. Of course, every kitchen is different, but it should fit standard.

I'm going to contest that "preferred by many over KitchenAid" statement having worked in a professional kitchen, being a foodie, and having never heard of that thing before you mentioning it here. You're also linking to a deal you posted yourself.

Back to this thread:

Most negative opinions of KitchnAids I ever see are either people complaining that bowl lifts are hard to add ingredients to, or that tilt-heads end up with problems (perfect adjustment of attachments vs bowl, or attachment of bowl in face plate.).

The pro series of KitchenAids are absolute workhorses. I'm really contemplating biting on this deal. My tilt-head artisan is pissing me off because the flutes in the base of the bowl are slightly deformed, and it results in quickly wearing out baseplates and having the bowl become detached. I just haven't been able to stomach the price of a new bowl when I know I damaged it by kneading too much dough, and I feel like I'll just wreck the next tilt-head bowl that I get by doing the same thing. I'd rather upgrade to the bowl lift, have more power, and a much more secure mechanism to lock the bowl in.

I totally agree with you, but good luck finding a 7qt anywhere near this price.
Got the 7 qt. For $175.99 from bed bath and beyond on a slick deal back in 2017. Whenever I see a deal I like that I would upgrade over 15 years and sell or give away the old one gradually trading up from a classic, to a six quart to the 7 quart- all worked great, the 7 qt is a beast.got tons of attachments from Sears back when they had points deals.

Great price, but warranty is only 6 months. I called Squaretrade and they won't cover it. Any ideas on how to extend the warranty?
I had a 20 year-old KitchenAid and I was able to order every single part for the mixer from KitchenAid. It hadn't broken; I'd just lost some of the parts. Even so, I ordered some grease and took it all apart and re-greased it internally.

In other words, what I'm saying is that these products are absolutely bulletproof and KitchenAid backs them with easy repairability and parts availability for decades.

I wish my experience was as positive as yours. I've also taken our KitchenAid stand mixer apart and re-greased it. Unfortunately, just recently, the rotating hub started descending on its own, causing the attachments to scrape the bowl. You can see this gap in the attached picture. I called KitchenAid this morning to see if this was some kind of known issue that I could somehow resolve on my own. They punted and said I would have to take it in for repairs Frown

If anybody has experienced this issue before and/or can think of a fix, I'm all ears. I've taken it apart again yesterday to see if I could figure out what's causing this, and I can't make heads or tails of it.

!'ve had a refurb of this the 6 quart professional for 17 years. It has never skipped a beat. I can double the batter of most cookie recipes and it handles it like a pro! I'm sitting here trying to justify buying a new one but my old one has given me no reason. I do get frustrated sometimes that you cant buy the specialty (pretty) bowls in the 6 quart size but when I think about the double duty the Pro model can handle, I'd never switch to a 5 quart.

Any chance that the gears are stripped? Although this is called a "professional" mixer, if you use it for dough you will wear the gears out with little effort. Here's a video on how to replace them.
