It's not "older vs newer" this is the professional series not home artisan series. It works like a professional commercial baker/chef mixer. It's also more powerful than the artisan (the one you call the "older style"). if you mean their "classic" model, this has double the power and 1.5qt bigger bowl size. 1qt bigger than the artisan and 250w more powerful (325vs575). if you are making thick doughs and not just mixing up a box of Betty crocker instant cake mix twice a year, the pro 600 series is way better in every way. https://www.kitchenaid.com/counte...chart.html
10% off coupon also works to drop it down to $180.
So, I have this exact model. I've been using it off and on for about 4 years now and it works great for almost everything. It'll make a thick dough with no problems. Pasta dough clumps right up, pizza dough is even easier. It'll shred cooked chicken or pork and will mash potatoes like nobody's business.

I've used the fruit/veggie peeler & corer for making apple pies, the pasta roller for homemade pastas of all sorts as long as they're flat, the citrus juicer for fresh orange juice, and the cheese grater.

The only thing that doesn't work great is the cheese grater/shredder. It's only for hard cheeses. Don't try to shred a bunch of a softer cheese like colby jack or havarti, it'll overheat the motor. Then the whole thing shuts down on safety until it cools enough.

So as long as you're not trying to shred a bunch of soft cheese, this should power through anything you throw at it.

Great price, but warranty is only 6 months. I called Squaretrade and they won't cover it. Any ideas on how to extend the warranty?
got mine 2 years ago for $180. Kitchen Aid actually shipped me the Costco version with an actual lift handle and cover (a new one is jut a metal lever) and more powerful motor. its built like a tank. been making bread with it every week.

I wish my experience was as positive as yours. I've also taken our KitchenAid stand mixer apart and re-greased it. Unfortunately, just recently, the rotating hub started descending on its own, causing the attachments to scrape the bowl. You can see this gap in the attached picture. I called KitchenAid this morning to see if this was some kind of known issue that I could somehow resolve on my own. They punted and said I would have to take it in for repairs https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/frown.gif

If anybody has experienced this issue before and/or can think of a fix, I'm all ears. I've taken it apart again yesterday to see if I could figure out what's causing this, and I can't make heads or tails of it.
Try what this guy does.

Here, he's replacing the gear and the shaft. It's called the "gear worm." he shows you exactly how to do it. So you can take it apart and look at the gears, see if they need replacement. Personally, I don't think any of this is hard. It mostly takes a screwdriver, a hammer/punch, and not much more. He says the gear costs $13.

I appreciate the link to the YouTube video. The video shows a great example of the teeth on the brass worm follow gear being stripped. My gears look fine, and there is no knocking noise when my unit runs (as the video suggests would be the case if the gear were stripped).

As I mentioned, my issue is that the rotating hub below the planetary gear is descending on its own, forming a gap and causing the attachments to scrape the bowl. I don't see how this would be related to the gears being stripped, but if I am missing something, please let me know.

The rotating hub is held in place by a pin that runs through the shaft of the "gear worm." You can see it here at about 50 seconds into the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouJ9pFkfrvg

So let's be logical:
The plate which is too low is held in place using a pin which runs through a shaft.
If the plate is too low, it's because the shaft is too low.
The shaft is part of a "gear worm" assembly which costs $13. I don't think the problem is the worm gear itself, the problem is that the shaft is too low. Either it's seated incorrectly or maybe the shaft just slipped down on the gear. I'm not an expert so I don't know for sure.

I attached the two photos. I think it's worth $13 to try.

Thanks for the pics. That said, my unit is a slightly different model and does not have that pin on the underside.

for those buying with the assumption that your CC will warranty, it might be good to check if the policy covers refurbished items.

Anyone interested in this deal should check out this as an alternate. Powerful motor and preferred by many over KitchenAid since it is so much easier to add ingredients. It's also meant to be much better at kneading dough

So my laptop is a refurb Asus G75... still kicking.

My crazy expensive headphones stopped working after week 3, sent it in and they replaced it with refurb... that pissed me off!!!

And based on this price and it is the 6Q pro model... I just bought one. But like others, it makes me wonder why they have so many refurbished one... kind of does not make sense.

Could be people who bought it and returned it for many different reasons such as: not liking the color, buyer's remorse, etc., same with how people buy phones, mattresses, and other stuff and return it.

I don't buy that .... but I still purchased it.

I feel, there was a run at the factory that did not do something correctly... and they are selling them as refurbs.

To have tens of thousands of refurbs just does not make sense. You can find refurbs on Amazon, Ebay, and other sites for this model. Just saying... that is ALOT of refurbs.

think about how many people purchased these during COVID lockdowns, etc., and never actually used them and returned it... kitchenaid sells 100,000+ of these every year lol
