There is a visual walkthrough at the end of this post. Read the instructions first. Most of the instructions is from previous Cricket deals. I tried to update them according to the terms of this deal but I might have missed something so please ask if anything is unclear.
EXISTING Cricket Customers
Approach 1:
Note about this approach: This instructions is from a previous deal, I personally tried it and at the last step of merging two accounts after 2 months, the credits were messed up and I didn't get all of the credits from the new account. Do it at your own risk and see the second Approach further down that I personally used recently.
STEP 1
Create a new account to purchase the phone. You can self refer and both your existing and new accounts will each get $25
STEP 2
Before purchasing this device with the new email address, generate the $25 referral coupon from your existing cricket amount. (If you've reached your referral limit, can also search eBay for "cricket $25 referral code"- the FREE referral link is in the eBay item description there's no need to pay $0.99) REMEMBER sharing, advertising, or PMing referrals is a VIOLATION of SD rules!
Your referral code expires 30 days from generation- purchase and activate during this time period
STEP 3
IMMEDIATELY after activating your new phone, enter your unique referral code emailed to you in the "Everything's Better with Friends" section of the myCricket app or Cricket online website. After inputting referral code, you will see a 60-day countdown tracker in the "Everything's Better with Friends" on when your $25 credit is credited.
Downgrade immediately your plan to the $30 plan. You will get the full $30 prorated credit if you downgrade within the first day of activation.
STEP 4
After 2 months on the cricket plan, both your new and old accounts are credited each with the $25 referral. The $25 referral credit will apply on the 59th day and you will get a text notifying you of the credit. After the credit posts, 1 day before your third month is charged on your new account, call Cricket customer service to merge your new account with your old account ensuring your $25 credit from the new account is transferred/ merged with your old account and then cancel that additional line that was merged
Approach 2:
NOTE: I have personally done this approach but don't know if anybody else has tried it. So, do it at your own risk.
Purchase the phone and pay $180, immediately after activation downgrade your plan to the $30 plan. You will get the full $30 prorated credit if you downgrade within the first day of activation. Right after that merge your new account into your main account by chatting/calling Cricket customer service and during the process make sure that the $150 credits in your new account will be transferred to the main account. Finally, cancel the additional line. You will have the phone for $30 and will have $150 credits in your account.
NEW Cricket Customers
STEP 1
Before purchasing your free phone, secure a $25 referral coupon from the cricket referral program (Search eBay for "$25 cricket referral code"- the FREE referral link is in the eBay item description there's no need to pay $0.99) REMEMBER sharing, advertising, or PMing referrals is a VIOLATION of SD rules!.
Once a referral code is generated, it expires within 30 days.
If you get the error "Well that didn't work as expected!" when trying to claim a code, you need to find a new link as this person has already reached their refer limit. NOTE: I also had this "Well that didn't work as expected" error when using a VPN (Torguard) service. Turned it off and it worked fine.
STEP 2
IMMEDIATELY after activating your new phone, enter your unique referral code emailed to you in the "Everything's Better with Friends" section of the myCricket app or Cricket online website. After inputting the referral code, you will see a 60-day countdown tracker in the "Everything's Better with Friends" on when your $25 credit is credited.
Change your plan to the $30 plan. You will get the full $30 prorated credit if you downgrade within the first day of activation. You should now have 2 full months of service with the $60 you prepaid and just have to pay $5 more for an extra third month of service. The $25 referral credit will apply on the 59th day and you will get a text notifying you of the credit. After 6 months on Cricket, you can request your free cricket phone to be unlocked

can you explain how the immediate downgrade works? my assumption is that if you start on the $60 plan and immediately downgrade, you wouldn't get a credit - so you'd lose $30 of the first $60 of the "downpayment" by switching to the $30 plan and be left with only 4 months of service instead - is this assumption incorrect? i'd like to get them, but would like to make sure before hitting that buy button.
