Hardware wise,
The 920+ has a faster cpu and more RAM. Go with the 920+

For me the 920+ I bought will be replacing a Dell T310 that couldn't do Quicksync to transcode 4k even if I had a GPU to throw into it. Not to mention 30w vs ~160w is going to add up fairly quick on the electric bill.

Sorry, where do you see the DS920+ for $439? I only see $549 now on Amazon, Newegg, etc.

Synology's naming scheme is pretty easy once you know it. The first number(s) is the number of drives it supports (direct and/or thru expansion) and the second 2 are the year it was introduced so those tend to be the same family. The DSxx20s are Intel based and came out in 2020. The 220 and 420 are dual core non expandable. The 720 and 920 are quad core expandable (in built 2 and 4 bays respectively). The 920 has 4 gigs of memory and the others have 2. All can add 4 additional gigs (officially, unofficially…)

This runs on ONE watt? That seems crazy since each of the HDDs inside need power. You sure the math is right on that?

Also if you get a $200 desktop conversion, you could throw a cheap used GPU in it and throw on NiceHash to pay for your power costs. (For now...). Then you're about the same initial cost and it might even earn you some money eventually.

There's also the Synology warranty that no one mentioned. Some are 2 or 3 years depending on the unit purchased. So with the power usage, space and warranty the $400+ nas unit seems a bit more affordable.
