When we smoke meat on our grill, we put the hickory or mesquite pellets in foil next to the meat and spritz them both maybe once or twice an hour (I forget how long, maybe 8 to 12 hours?) The briskets were delicious.
$17 at my local lowes.

I do a 50/50 blend of charcoal and the competition pellets.

Been wanting to try them. But the closest Walmart to me doesn't carry them. Have to drive further out.
That said, I do use these for my GMG smokers.
And I use their charcoal pellets in my smoke tube for additional smoke flavor. (the charcoal pellets are known to cause sensor issues with the GMGs)
