Also, the bare handle of this set is fixed at 10lbs whereas the bare handle of the personal trainers is 5lbs, which allows a bit more flexibility with the weights (i.e., lifting 7.5lbs).
With that said, this is a great pandemic-era price for a new set of non-expandable powerblocks. The personal trainers were capped at 50lbs, and were popular deals at $300. This set offers much of the same functionality for $40 less.

One drawback for the powerblocks with adder weights is that having just one 2.5lb weight in a handle makes it feel unbalanced. Adding the iron weight plates on either end keeps it balanced and even.
Suggestion on earth magnets? Link to those strong magnets that you used?

Any suggestion on 1/2lb magnetic weights? Didn't want to spend money on the expensive platemates.
What I did was basically build DIY plate mates for a fraction of the cost using small iron weight plates and rare earth magnets. See the following tutorial: https://www.reddit.com/r/homegym/...=post_body
Can't recall which rare earth magnets I got, but they were from Home Depot and were similar in size and strength as the ones described in the Reddit tutorial.
One note: the Plate Mates and DIY plat mates don't work as well with the urethane or "Pro" powerblocks since the weight stacks don't have a clean metal surface.

I got my first pair of powerblocks from woot and was able to get the two expansion kits bringing weight up to 90 per block.
Maybe the set you purchased before were different.
One nice thing about the non expandable models is that it's much quicker to change by increments of 5lbs because there are no internal internal weight cylinders to take in and out. However, because of that there are less incremental weight options and the non-expandable models can only go as low as 10lb.
Elite - 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10,15, 17.5, 20 25, 27.5, 30, 35, 37.5, 40, 45, 47.5, 50
Sport 50 (non-expandable) - 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50
Edit: Another thing to mention is that Sport 50 has a thicker handle compared to the Elite. Also, because the Sport 50 doesn't have the internal weight cylinders, there is more room in the handle area so it'll require some decent wrist and grip strength to balance the weights like a traditional dumbbell.

"Yo bro I maxed out my curl yesterday, did 22.5 lbs! Think I could have stretched it to 23.75, but these weights only go up by 2.5"
LOL
